ok i will try and make this short and sweet. ( i hope )

i got a new ( 4 days old) dell laptop inspiron 1521 it as windows vista

this is how everything is set up. i have a modem ( it has no name brand on it just says gateway on the paper) it is hooked to my 1 day old router that is a Linksys BEFSR41 ver 4.3. also hooked to that linksys is my vonage device and my husbands desktop that runs XP ( homemade pc runs top notch)

as i sit here and type all is well, good connection, vonage has dial tone, hubby is playing his online game. but earlier it just up and stopped.

i have called tech sapport on all items including his online game. all the ip address and ports and firewalls are taken care of for everything to work.

why did it all stop?

so i unhooked everything and just ran my pc to the modem and it didnt work. called tech and powered down twice before it would work...... why?

ok then everything was up and running again, and my computer would not pull up webpage. went into dos.... ping yahoo.com and it gets replys but the browser wont let a page come up. ( hubbys computer would thou)

called linksys they did everything to get it to work, they said call Dell ,,, i call dell... they say call linksys :hairout ... little foreign man.

so i turned everything off and rebooted and everything was fine for about 2 hours. i just now came back to a screen saver and cant pull a web page.

wellllllllllllllllll as i was writing this... dsl went out again.... so i called the phone company they are coming again tomarrow..... ... i acutally got the modem to work all my self.....

but even if they do come..... im going to be fearful it will happen again.... at already has many times?

WHYYYYYY... what is the matter with this thing..... ???

well im sure i will have vista trouble soon... i cant blame it all on it. right now im running straight to the dsl modem... after 2 reboots..... i tried my hubbys pc stright to the modem and it didnt work either, and his is XP.

before i bought the new vista computer, my old one started this whole mess and it was a XP... worked for a year with no trouble..... just would not get a website.... the dsl man said something was wrong with my windows browser..... because he came here nd hooked right up to his laptop ( not sure what windows version) ... changedthe modem and left... so i went and bought a new pc because i had to have one asap for my job.... couldnt use hubbys because the redneck that built it didnt put a regular phone port in the back that i needed for my job.

LORD HELP ME!

If it His will for me to loose my job, just let me go quick.... this computer stuff is diving me nuts! tomarrow is my birthday, im starting the pity party early! heehee

Probably bandwidth. I have a friend that has Vonage, and every now and then he'll 'lag out' because there's just too much information going up the line.

Only real advice I have is maybe upgrade your connection to handle higher upload speeds. Call your cable or phone company and they can get you set up. Afterwards, you should notice not only more reliability but a speed increase for your PC's as well.

I'd say bandwidth, too. Voice over IP can be picky about what you have running on your computer at the same time.
