Sorry if this has been discussed before.

If the article is correct - they realized that they were chasing off believers.

They are repenting for disregarding mature believers?

What's their message?

They were the leading church in the 'seeker sensitive' 'church-growth' movement, meaning that it was more important to not offend and have people in the seats than it was to make followers.

I am not reading that they have really changed anything. Still wanting to see what works in this culture instead of just relying on the straight forward preaching of the Word of God.

Why will they not see that the power is in the Word of God! I keep telling the pastors at our church that stories are boring and the Word of God is exciting! They just smile and go on.:tsk:tsk

The success of a church is dependent on if it is attached to the head (Christ) or not. Activities that connect people to the head both individually and corporately are activities that should be practiced. The Bible states clearly which activities will both enhance and inhibit the connection to the head, and thus our effectiveness.

The Bible tells us to make disciples, not fill pews. As churches work toward this end they will be successful. The church is not an ordinary social club with ordinary strategies for growth. It is supernatural, and wholly dependent on the head (Christ alone, not a pope, pastor, or elders). His methods, which can only be found in Scripture, are where our focus needs to be applied.

In fact it isn't repentance, but showing public convergence between the seeker sensitive church movement and the "relevant" Emerging church movement and Emergent church movement. The leaders of the emergent church movement previously stated that they are far more authentic in faith unlike the "modernist" seeker sensitive church movement.

This news has shown that claim to be a lie.

Joel - I'll defer to you on this as it seems to be your area of concentration.
Thanks,
