Does it look like the screen is broke and it's bleeding through? My son thinks that is probably the problem, since it is working otherwise. He recommended calling the IPOD store.

Yeah I tried the 'restore thing' twice...its still doing it. In fact the first few times after a turn it on/off after doing a restore the screen is actually worse.....how does the Ipod store handle stuff like this? The Ipod is a yr old....but I didnt buy any extended warrenty or anything.......can they fix the screen? Does anyone know how much this would cost? Its 150 for a new one...so I dont want to spend a lot to fix a screen when I could get the new one....I dont know I was hoping this would last for more than a yr....

Based on apple it'll be overpriced whichever way you go. Still, run by an apple store if you have one and see how much it'll be to repair it. Otherwise, look online.
If you end up getting a new DAP (Digital Audio Player) Might I suggest the Microsoft Zune. They have an awesome subscription service that's $15 a month, and lets you download all the music you want. When I had mine, it was absolutely wonderful. Plus, you can sync it over wifi, so you don't even have to plug it into the computer to put yer music on it.

If you iPod is out of warranty you will probably be better off with a third party repair service such as www.restoredoctors.com, www.rapidrepair.com or www.iresq.com, for examples. I sometimes purchase applecare on my portable products - Apple is the best in the industry with their repairs and customer satisfaction it has usually paid for itself. With Apple service costs, its one of those you get what you pay for things, and all portable electronics have a tendency to fail at some point.
If you you are looking at new iPods, you should check out the iPod touch. The user interface is phenomenal.
