I have read several "In case of a disaster" writings from several different Christian Politico-economic experts, and Have come up with my own revised plan of preparing for the worst case scenerio....if The Lord tarries and we Christians are to endure with the world. First , I would fill a grocery list of survival items ( over a period of time because of expense ) that would hopefully last my wife, children and myself in case we are separated from my immediate family. Listed as follows...a high watt generator, a travel trailer, storable dry food for 6 mo.-1 yr., rifle with scope,semi-auto pistol, assault shotgun and hunting shotgun, + 1000 extra rounds for each gun, anti-biotics,+ all necessary emergency medical supplies, 500 gallons extra gasoline + fuel stabilizer, x-tremme cold weather clothing for entire family, steel wild animal traps(for camp protection), proximity intruder alarms, waterproof camping tent(s),fishing gear , automotive and hand tool assortment, matches and lighters, high flammability fire starter, batteries, radios, flashlights, nails, chainsaws, atv, climbing gear, utility trailer, extra lumber, blankets, air compressor,, bee sting kits, binocular(s),whistles, flares, flaregun, tasers, maps, gps, laptop computer, portable tv, seed for replanting veggies, etc. etc. Also I would scout out several different possible sanctuary locations to flee to as sancuaries, and bury emergency provisions at those sites just in case you have to leave all your provisions behind, in the event of an E.M.P. or nuclear attack. Also work out a co-ordinating plan with your Parents, siblings, etc. so that you can communicate by walkiie talkie and meet up for better safety in numbers. I have 20+ yrs.High mountain living experience so time outdoors in extreme weather is good to build Character and preparation. Also if any family member has private property you can hold out there until you have pooled your resourses to thye point where you can caravan it to the sanctuary. I would choose a high altitudefoothill or mountainous area that is defensable and easily surveyable in all directions. If and when people discover you, you will be able to oppose their advance into your territory by alarms, manmade landslides, and weapons should they be hostile. I would encorage anyone interested in this thread and wanting to be disaster read to input any valuable suggestions and supply lists. We could all use your expert survival tips. T3

I have some of this (my family and my inlaws), but I'm beginning to wonder, how am I going to turn away my hungry neighbors and their children, how am I going to plant a garden that will be robbed in the middle of the night, how am I going to heat a house with no fireplace, how long before water would be an issue.

If it gets as bad as needing guns (which my family has plenty of) and hunting, and walkie talkies, I will be dead in three months anyways, because I won't be able to get my medications that I need to live (synthroid).

I have a garden this year, we have food stuff for a few weeks for our family of four, but anything more then a few weeks and your talking end of the world civilization in this country, people will be stealing from gardens, stores, they'll be shooting and vandalism, it would make the left behind movies look like Disney World I think.

The Lord is my strength, I pray we won't be here if it gets like this. Not to mention to buy alot of this stuff, I would have to do it on credit and I have decided credit is just a form of stealing anymore, and it gets harder and harder to pay back your debt, I despise being a debtor.

I dont think alot of frail people will be climbing any mountains, even someone my age with blood pressure problems-a walk longer then 5 miles carrying more then a few things is all I'm going to be able to handle at a time. I'd be to exhausted to feed myself, and I'm going to be 50, and not 'that' out of shape. I can't imagine folks I see walk around who huff and puff just going to Walmart and back, who either larger or more frail health wise. They will be pretty much staying in their homes until they are desperate and then start begging in the streets, how as a Christian am I going to sit in my home eating my canned foods, while my next door neighbor with their 2 year old baby starves?
And when I start giving them food so they don't die, how long will my food last?

How long before I'm that person begging and starving in the street. There are only so many deers in the woods around my house (Michigan) and I wouldn't be able to freeze the excess anyways, everyone would be out looking for the deer and shooting each other by accident (oh the chaos) and that one deer would feed a couple of families for a few days and then what, every 5th family would be doing the same thing as I would be doing and the deer will be gone in a month.

Its just so depressing, nobody would survive but a few.

Great post fishers...it would seem to me- as one trained to be a survivalist at a young age- that the game would be a temporary one and only good until the real chaos erupts.

I have atv's, generator, camping/hunting gear galore, tools, a large trailer, etc. I could do fine for a while, until found and overpowered by marauding gangs. I don't store food, I could theoretically always kill something to eat to stay alive. I do believe in preparing though, in a way that ensures you can do ok in the event of a disaster where complete order has not yet been lost. Simple things could be in short or no supply, so it makes perfect sense to me to prepare for power outages, natural disasters, and the like. Generally, my hope is that enough people would be bound by their own internal good will to aid each other.

All other bets are off. If we had to 'disappear' into the mountains, the more I think about it, it would be a short-lived pursuit and likely non-fortuitous long term. Who can say.

If and when "it" all happens, we are all in it together. That's the only conclusion I can make with any certainty. I have what I need for my family, and would hope to band together with others, but I am beginning to wonder how much of it is romanticized delusion? All I know for sure is I don't want to live in the city- any city.

Yep, I'm agreeing with you on this one. As much as I'd love to prepare and do all these things, I can't. My hubby and I live in a teeny, tiny condo in the middle of a very busy, populated Detroit suburb. We barely have enough space for us, let alone a stockpile, generator and all that other stuff. No garden, no room for gasoline storage, nothing.

I've got a few things on hand in case of a short-term emergency like power outage or blizzard, but other than that, I am just going to trust in the Good Lord to take care of us. I figured that if he really wanted me to stock up, prepare and gather things for survival, then we would be in a home more conducive to that. We tried selling our condo to buy a house last year, and we didn't have one person even interested. We decided that we are meant to stay here, for whatever reason.

I'll just continue to pray, to spread His Word, and to be a good Christian. It's all I've got. :)

Topped;

I suppose that's as good a plan as any.

Big things to remember are water and sanitation. Without water, 3-5 days is all a person will last. Without a means to effectively deal with waste, cholera and other nasty bugs will kill you within weeks. Food is a bit easier, as long as there's an ample stockpile, and a safe place to keep it. The ability to scrounge will be extremely useful, as well as the ability to adapt, improvise, and overcome.

Develop a varied skill set. Be able to fix things, use tools, build lots of cool stuff (like wells, shelter, irrigation systems, etc.) Know more than just basic first-aid.

As far as having a place to bug out to, there's going to be quite a bit of competition (probably violent) for the choice spots. Many people aren't quite willing to confront brutality in a likewise manner. Having an arsenal won't do a person any good, if that person isn't willing to pull the trigger when needed. Bugging out in place is likely the best option for most people.

The best way, I think, to survive "TEOTWAWKI" is to be on good terms with your neighbors, and help those who need help. Be nice. Form communities in which each member contributes to the greater good of the group. Also, as the saying goes, "be polite, but have a plan to kill everyone you meet". And most importanly, have a good mindset. Panic and hysteria are deadly killers. Know Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord.

The Bible clearly states that we should not worry about what we will eat or what we will wear. Since I know the Bible is always true this takes a huge burden off me. I have prepared to an extent, but face it no one knows how much to prepared, for how long, if we be will here, how we will react, Only the Lord so I trust that we will manage. He can and will lead us, Feed us, take care of us, We are His sheep and everyone knows how the flock will scatter if not watched and tended carefully, He is the Good Shepard and we are safe in His hands :pray So yes..... we should do as much as we can but then leave the rest up to our Lord, I think he leads each one of us to the place we need to be. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding Pr 3:5

Plus, I like what was said earlier about sitting at home eating canned goods while people outside are starving. I say stock up what you can and be prepared to share as the Lord directs you to.
When I was making quilts to give away to a mission- the Lord always provided materials, batting and thread. It always came in in abundance. Trust the Lord!

I always say, if you want to make God laugh, make plan's...:hug

Attempting to cover all the variables and scenario's in the event something happened that required this type of response to them.. I have to say a lot of it 'sound's' good on paper but real life does not usually cooperate when it comes to our plans.

In a case where the economy had a meltdown..banks closed, innitially hysteria would ensue, which would be the 'enemy'..

thats quite a different thing from if a hurricane hit and your enemy was the elements..let's say you are not going to be going any where if an earthquake hits and you are in the center of it.

Unless one has lived in a climate, a location, as set of conditions as part of a lifestyle over a long duration, just because they have all the gear ready and read a few books on it about how to use it... there's so much training and conditioning involved on many levels..the Marines have week of boot camps just for this very reason.. when it comes to being underfire..just like firemen have training for running through fires.

I hope folks realize they simply are not going to turn into Rambo or Laura Ingles from Little House on the Prarie with the minute the word gets out the poop had hit the fan..thats not realistic.Any more than putting on a helmet makes one a pro football player or NAVY SEAL...

Perhaps... the best plan we can have is the one for when all of ours go to hell in a hand basket, and ask God to not all ow us to become his or our own worst enemies when we find ourselves in the same boat with everyone else in either scenarios.

One of the most profound scenes I ever saw captured in a movie that will challange ones "plans" to see if they are ready would be in the film, "the Patriot"..

There is a scene when all the local townsfolk who had been supporting the Americans from the British were paraded into their small town church, never anticipating what would become their fate when the evils of war showed up in the people it did and how..certain things are simply inconceivable no matter how hard we try to prepare ourselves for..things only God can.

I have lived among, it seen it, been at the receiving end of it and in the effort that responded to it..in real life..real bullets, real blood, real bad scenarios, over the course of my life..and I received extensive training for much of it prior to the situation so my response would be conditioned into me as a reflex..for the sake of others lives,as well as my own..

So many folks worry about what other people will become like in these scenartios, when trust me the worst nightmare's one will ever face will be what these scenarios have revealed they always were and never saw it "coming"...

just like the character in "the Patriot" who realized all of his neighbors, friends family were locked in the town church when he was ordered to burn it down with them in it..and did it..becasue He lost focus, perhaps never had a glimmer of a connection with God as to what God is doing in the midst of what we are doing when it comes to making "our plans".:hug

I'm going to try to put this delicately and with a disclaimer first :) While I am all for preparing and protecting my family (and I have defended our right to do so on here ad nauseum), I believe there does have to be some perspective and a limit beyond which we are no longer doing God's will. It is one thing to be a good steward and protect the family you are charged with protecting. It is a far different thing to be holed up on a deserted mountaintop as if the rest of your life will be nothing but a video game fantasy come true. We are still bound by our Christian values, especially when times get tough.

2 Corinthians 4:16

16Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Well, to anyone who is in the condo/small dwelling situation, there is a solution for storage. Look up. What do you see? Are you really as tall as those ceilings? Look at all of that wasted space above your heads, along the walls near the ceilings. You can build shelving all along that space to store things. Be sure to put a wood slat in front of the shelving to help keep the stuff from falling easily. I wish I knew how to draw good and I could show it to you what I mean, but you might get the idea anyway.

There's all sorts of ways to expand your storage space if you're creative.

I think it would be foolish not to stockpile what you're able to if you can afford it. Prices are going up. You're saving money over the long run by buying it now instead of later, both in food and gas cost.
