This thread may make you laugh, or maybe even moo. I don't think most Americans ever need to worry about actually dying from starvation. If it came to it, we could all eat our lawns. It's probably nutritious enough to keep you alive and would certainly fill your stomach. It might make you sick if you use chemicals on it, but maybe not. The fiber would certainly keep things moving. Pickins would be slim in the Southwest, but elsewhere should be OK. Mooo!

It depends on the weather. One year we had such a hot summer and no rain. The garden dried up - watering it just didn't do it. I thought - that's ok - we live next to a swamp and we'll be able to pick wild plants like the Indians did. The swamp dried up, too. Maybe we wouldn't all starve but it might solve all our dieting problems.

I just thought - if most of us have to resort to eating dandelions and squirrels - once the canned goods are all gone - wouldn't heart disease and stuff like that go away?

Not to worry, not to worry, there's plenty of protein in the bugs to keep you going. Put some mud over them and you can pretend they are covered in chocolate. :hug

People would be surprised to find how "tasty" (taste is a relative term) dandelions can be, if prepared with a little lemon, garlic, and olive oil. As far as squirrels go haven't been down that road yet.

In "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation," when the squirrel got in the house Chevy Chase's character said "What about Eddie, doesn't he eat those things?" and Randy Quaid's character said "No, Clark, I had to give them up, they're too high in cholesterol." :hehee
