Kathy's Meal Plan
from the show Take 10 Years Off Your Looks Makeovers

To jump-start your self-makeover, Kathy says a 21-day cleanse can improve they way you look and feel. Kathy says she doesn't follow the cleanse on a daily basis—only once or twice a year. Here is an example of what Kathy might eat on a typical day:

Breakfast
Two pieces of gluten-free toast with natural peanut butter or almond butter
Tea

Lunch
Quinoa with tofu and vegetable stir-fry

In the summer, Kathy likes to throw together a big salad with whatever she finds fresh at the market.

If she's in a hurry, Kathy says she'll have soy yogurt with almonds and blueberries. "I'm not the best cook in the world, so I like to keep it simple," she says.

Dinner
Salad with avocado and lentil soup. "What I'll do basically is just go into the grocery store and see what's fresh and available," she says. "I always go to the farmer's market whenever I can and see what they have."

If it's a cookout, Kathy says she'll opt for a soy burger or soy dog.

My daughter, age 21, is an Exercise & Sports Science major and she eats like this. I personally think it is disgusting food:fear, especially the lentil soup, but if I ever got close to 200 lbs. I would probably try it for 21 days once a year.

What do you women think about this? As far as trying to live 100 years, I'd rather be with Jesus than try this diet. If I did it I would have:

Tea with gluten free two piece of toast with peanut butter for Breakfast
Salad, stir fry or the yogart for Lunch
and the lentil soup and salad for Dinner but truly very tasteless and disgusting for 21 days:ohno. But perhaps if gasoline ever doubles and this is cost efficient I might then try it. But as far as gasoline ever reaching $100 to fill up - I would probably eat spaghetti with an envelope of spaghetti mix stired in with water, ramen noodes, $.89 cent tv dinner or McDonald's dollar menu to survive.

The soy dogs are pretty good, you can't tell the difference all that much.

We have recently gone meat and dairy free due to some medical issues with DH.

I thought is was going to be really rough, but it hasn't been that bad. We have a great natural food store with lots of options. Stir-fry with tofu has become a regular meal and it took a couple of times to figure out how to get the tofu right, but thankfully, I work with a chinese girl and she has given me pointers on the prep. We marinate the tofu in miso broth then cube it and add it to the stir fry.

We have substituted soy milk for dairy and it is working out ok. You can't really tell the difference when all you do is put it on cereal.

There is a middle eastern food truck here at work and that man can do wonders with lentils. I have never had such tasty, healthy vegetarian food. It all depends on how you spice it.

We do not have to eat stuff we hate to lose weight. I lost 50 pounds in a year eating spaghetti, mashed potatoes, and diet pizza, even going out to eat once a week for burgers or Mexican food.
I ate three meals a day and two healthy snacks. It is just a question of moderation. When it takes you longer to lose the weight it stays off longer. I have kept the weight off three years. I sometimes even take two days off a week, but I have come to the realization, that I will always have to have control to some degree on what I eat. Those hundred calorie snacks help and having lots of fresh veggies and fresh fruit on hand helps.
I will never be a size 6. For one thing my bones don't support that size, but I am happy and I feel better about myself.
More then food though, I found when I prayed every day and asked God to help me eat wisely that day, He did help me. I even schedule in my calorie count a candy bar occasionally. Eating in a way that is pleasing to God, is not going with out candy the rest of your life. It is just not eating candy until you are ill.
Diets where you deprave yourself of foods you like, lead to failure. For one thing if you go along time, with out food you like, you tend to binge eat afterwards. Which can cause you to gain back every pound you lost.
We first tried the low carb diet and I found myself craving bread. Now I just count calorie and I eat high fiber bread. I like the double fiber bread by orowheat. There are some things we can pick low fat or no fat alternatives. Sugar free pudding is good. We use splenda and we like the walmart version of crystal lite.

Quinoa is not that bad if it is with other things, or it is fixed properly. Unfortunatley I have not found Quinoa flakes here, or I would make "Oatmeal cookies" with it. We just have it as flour here... so I will use it in bread but not as the only meal in my gluten free bread.

*IF* I were going on a cleanse, I would remove all yeast and raising agents in my diet, and limit my sugar intake.

If you're doing it from the gluten free angle... add in more fruits and veggies (Steamed, boiled, fried if you want, baked, in smoothies/drinks and raw)... increase your water intake and just be sensible about what you put in your mouth ;)

I will go through rounds of taking out store-bought prepared items I can have (chips, candy) but the one thing I really don't do a lot of is bread, even the stuff I make at home. I have gotten where the smell of the yeast itself puts me off, so I just don't make it. I don't know if it is because I am expecting, and am more vulnerable to certain conditions at the moment due to the yeast being present, or if it is just a "smell factor". So passover was relatively easy in our house considering. :lol

If you are making your own bread, I'd introduced flaxmeal into the bread for the additional fiber (and it does help cleanse in it's own way)...

With my issues, I have no control over the fact I can't have gluten, and the fact I can't have veggies that are high in salyclites (Onion is off the chart for me, bell peppers are OK occasionally or if in salsa or meat for flavor but not consumed, same for raw garlic - though I can have limited dried garlic).. and anything with MSG or artificial flavoring (Aspartame etc) is also off the list. It creates other "control" issues for me, so dieting is a no-no for me, as well as having a scale in the house for anything other than measuring what I will cook (food scale) or it becomes just one more "control" and an easy OCD issue. I watch what I eat, and I also have to suppliment because my body is still repairing itself as I have celiac disease but wasn't eating according to the diet faithfully until about 2 years ago and we've had several "hiccups" with gluten and MSG since July last year which set me back in the intestinal repair department.

I found if I crave something, obey the craving -- because my body is lacking whatever mineral or vitamin is in that substance, or I will end up eating all day long a little of everything except what I really and truly want.

A lot of times it has to do with a vitamin or mineral deficiency with me, and if we really watch it, I can be careful and suppliment properly.

One good thing I found before moving overseas was that sugar-beet or plain cane sugar was really great in items and I could use that without as much issues as refined in my tea -- and agave nectar is just as good as honey or sweeter in homemade granola bar mixes.. and honey is absolutely awesome if purchased locally to keep down on one's seasonal allergies (well, mine anyway!). I haven't had to have much of any sinus medicine this spring, which is entirely unheard of in the last 10 years of my life... so I am really thankful we found some quality local organic honey that's from our forest (Odenwald and Schwartzwald) and flowers.

Be careful when you 'cleanse'

I had a rebound effect where my toxins got out of my fat, but hung up in my blood stream leading to months of odd symptoms.

Slow weight loss is definitely the way to go :nod

First I'll warn you against soy products. I have a thyroid problem and soy makes it worse. Also I've heard of other people who messed up their health with soy foods - not the fermented kind - which is apparently ok.
I need to lose some weight and I know if I just quit the desserts - or the snacking on cookies and chips - over time the weight would melt off. If I walk almost every day, too, which is good for a person.
I found myself at Christmastime singing a little song every time I snacked on cookies, "In heaven there are no Christmas cookies...that's why we eat them here...and when we're gone from here...our friends will be eating all our Christmas cookies" Pretty lame, huh? It's sung to the tune of "In Heaven there is no Beer" - an old polka. I'm sure nobody here knows that song...
But I think there is food in heaven - Jesus ate when He came back. And heaven food has to be so much more wonderful that ours! And it won't make you fat! Or give you disease!
I think moderation in all things where food is concerned is the answer. And stay away from expensive junk that's supposed to be "healthfood".
This from a person who's tried every diet and still struggles with the subject of food. I know - it's my dh's fault! He's the one who brings home all the cookies and chips. It's my hand that puts it in my mouth, tho.
