My van has recently started making a popping sound from the front end when I slow way down. Do you all think it's a cv joint? My DH can probably fix it, but I was just trying to get an idea.
Thanks!

CV or Strut would be things I check.
I think you can go online and check for recall, common problems.
And dont drive like my brother.:aha

Hi chel0524
I am a mechanic. I may be able to help, but I need more info.
1. Year make and model vehicle
2. Are you turning when you here this "popping sound"?
3. Does this noise seem to happen over bumps when traveling slow or do you hear this sound even on a smooth road?
4. If you let your foot off the brake when this noise is happening does it quit?

1.It's a 97 Plymouth Grand Voyager.
2. Going straight
3. Even on a smooth road. Always when I am slowing down.
5. Quits when I let off the brake.

That doesn't sound like a CV joint, they generally make noise on hard turns when acclelerating.
I have heard hub caps make this kind of noise, try removing them (if you have them) and test drive with them off.
Also on this van the spindle that holds the front brake pads wear out which causes them to make a clicking sound during braking. Usually when you buy new front pads they give you shims along with the pads to help fix this problem.
Did you have recent front brake work done?

I had new brakes put on about a month ago. It's a pop, pop sound. Sounds almost like it's along the whole passenger side, but primarily in the front.

It does sound like a "loose" brake pad from a worn spindle. This is NOT a dangerous condition and again it can be fixed with a little shim that is sold with new brake pads that will take up the clearance from the worn slide. However have someone check it out for you just to be sure.
To check for this condition. When you grab the brake pad you should not be able to move it up and down on the slide that holds the pad (only a tiny little bit of up down movement is acceptable). You will also see a very visable groove worn into the slide that shouldn't be there.
Let me know if you have any questions. You could PM me with your phone # and I will call you or we can keep trying this way. I am not real good at explaining things on paper.

Lostsheep - thanks so much for your input. I told my DH your suggestions last night and he is going to check it this weekend. It was something that had not occurred to him. I'll let you know what he finds.
