Im not sure 'studying to be in the ministry' is enough info.

If all that is needed is some bible software, web surfing and typing papers, then something fairly low-end will probably be sufficient. All you would really want is a decent quality screen.

If graphics are involved, then something more is probably needed.

They're all pretty comparable. The Mac has the faster CPU and smaller HD. Office 2008 for Mac is comparable/compatible with Office 2007 for PC although iWork for Mac is a pretty good product (I really like Keynote). The Mac can dual boot Windows with Boot Camp. While the Mac has the smaller screen, they are all the same resolution and the Mac's screen is VERY sharp.

Bottom line, if you need a DL DVD burner, go with the others, if you want reliablilty go with the Mac (I still use an old MacBook G4 along with a Compaq 6715b). The big question is more what "ministry" software will be used. Logos/Libronix (my favorate) is readily available for PCs (I run mine using VMWare for Linux) and it is in Alpha testing (it's on my MacBook) as we speak.

"Choose ye this day which laptop you will use, but as for me and my house ..." Actually we have one Mac(PPC), one Compaq(AMD), one eMachine(AMD), and a huge desktop (AMD 6000+, 4G ram, 1.24 TB HDs, triple booting Vista, Linux, OS X, yes it's a hackintosh).

I would personally go with the Sony, but that is just my opinion. Make sure that it has the processor that you need and the memory that you need and you should be good to go! The nice thing with the Sony is that you can take it to any PC or Laptop repair shop and they will be able to do their diagnostics on it, Dell's and Mac's it can be very hard and it may require that you ship it out to them and be without a computer for a while if anything happens to them. You could even check out this website (where we order all of our parts from) the awesome thing is you can read the reviews (tons of them) before you buy. Good luck and Happy shopping!

I would get a Dell if I was going to need to have Microsoft Office. You can buy Office for half price as part of your Dell purchase rather than pay retail later. The Dell Inspiron line is cheaper also compared to the XPS line.

All depends on what he has for software.

I have had a Toshiba Satellite for 3 years now and I love it!! No problems at all. I have several Bible programs, lots of graphics, (I love to work with graphics) it has a sd card reader for quick download of photographs , DVD burner, 2 gig ram, 100 gig HD, satellite card slot, 3 usb ports. I am not into games so this has been a wonderful laptop for me.
I have an HP desktop with a 19" monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse but when it is gone I will not replace it. I will only have a laptop from now on.

Hope you find what you need. :hug

Go with the Mac. They don't break or need repairs. I have owned Apple computers for 19 years and have never paid a cent for repairs. I am typing this on my 13.3" MacBook. The OS is fantastic, and I will never own a PC again after giving one a chance for a couple years. I even run Windows on my Mac, so I can run any software out there, though I usually am on the Mac side.

I used to be a Mac tech - they do break :) . But I would recommend one, too - although there are Mac virii out there, virus writers tend not to waste their time writing them for the Mac OS because there aren't as many users - so, that's a major headache, right there, that you'd avoid by owning one.
