After the manner of the thread that was about the different faces, the lion, the calf, the man and the eagle,

This is something that came to me. . . .

When Jesus said you must eat my flesh and drink my blood, that does sound like a hard saying until you have understanding. The other day, I think God gave me the understanding of this saying.

In the First chapter of John, it says the word became flesh. It also says elsewhere that we would not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

The flesh, then, is the Word, we must partake of His word. Now the blood part. We drink the blood, or does it "wash down the word?"

that can also tie in with the verses that say

Romans 10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

12For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

14How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

15And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

16But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

17So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

So, we eat the Word and are washed in the blood.

It is possible it could be my own thinking, but it did just pop in my head, and I thought wow!!! It makes sense to me that way.

Throw your thoughts in about this, what do you think?

So, we eat the Word and are washed in the blood.

Sure, it's a spiritual saying meaning that Jesus is to be our spiritual sustenance. Jesus was speaking in a manner that would weed out those looking for a meal ticket from those seeking spiritual truth.

1 Corinthians 2:13 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=53&chapter=2&verse=13&version=31&context=verse)
This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.

The scriptures are pregnant with 'word pictures' and 'types' and 'shadows'

They are likened to food, we are likened to babies. If they are spiritual food, and we are spiritual babies, then the importance of 'eating and drinking' the scriptures becomes readily apparent, and feeding from some other food, which is not really food at all, becomes poisonous to us. We see it all around us with believers who somehow do not go to the scriptures to get their bread, but instead rely on their own thoughts or take their cues from the world.

Whenever I see blood in scriptures, I equate it with life. We see this, for instance, in Gen 9:4. So when we drink Christ's blood we are taking his life within ourselves so that it is He who lives in us as it states in Galatians.

Gal 2:19 "For through the Law I died to the Law, so that I might live to God.
Gal 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

So to drink His blood is to take His life within us. And the nature of this life that we now live is a life lived to God.

Rom 6:10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.
Rom 6:11 Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
