Does anybody know if there is any significance to Jesus' dipping bread in the bowl and then handing it to Judas? I read this in John 13:26-30 this morning and it is bugging me...:idunno

The 'sop' was traditionally given by the host to an honored guest. It was an act of service, of sorts, and of affection.
I think Jesus did it to show that He still cared for Judas despite what he was about to do.

I have heard that it is what friends did for their guest. So even then when Jesus knew what Judas was up to He still considered him a friend.

OK, but it says as soon as Judas accepted Jesus' offer of friendship/love "Satan entered into him". I guess that's what is bugging me...:thinking Why would Satan enter into someone who has accepted Jesus' offer of love?

AHHH! When all else fails, consult a commentary.
David Guzik (Blue Letter Bible site) states that it is indeed a sign of Christ's love for even those who do not love Him. It also offers Judas an opportunity to repent which he does not do but rather completes the betrayal while all the while trying to appear as Jesus' friend. Maybe that is why the apostles do not grasp what Judas is doing. If you read a little further, they still thought he was about the Lord's business delivering something to the poor. I guess this could be taken as a warning for us to be careful during this time of great apostasy...very sobering.
Thanks for your help guys, I feel better! :hug

That is very good. WOW, I had not really thought of the significance of the sop. Thanks for asking the question.

I just love when some seemingly unimportant part of scripture keeps rolling around in my head. I've always learned something from those times and it's usually because I don't ignore it but just keep thinking and praying about it and I use the Bible to explain the Bible. To me, it always adds another dimension to God's word and it just makes me believe all the more. Isn't God great!!? :yeah

The sop was the part of the Passover when those partaking would dip their unleavened bread into the horseradish (enough to make you cry), symbolizing the tears and hardships of slavery.

Just my opinion :):
I think that in the face of Jesus's unconditional love Judas made a final rejection of that love.
That would indicate to me that since the decision was resolute, at that point, Judas, essentially, opened himself up to Satan by doing so, because it was like rejecting "a last offer" from the Lord.
So in a legal sense Satan had an open door to take control of him.
