I have read that at $200 and beyond gas is going to be rationed. That is sobering to think of the effects on the economy of a 21 st century society built on cheap energy. I can't imagine what that would do. You could not get to work to make your income to pay your bills. Your company may not be there. Govt services cut? With all the entitlements we have given to thousands of people over the last 40 years?

I remember gas rationing in the 70s, things could get ugly.

stonewallfan, where did you read that at, please? Thanks.
I believe the job market is going to go topsy-turvy in the next year or so. All the commuters will be working closer to home, or trying to, for less gas usage.
The rural areas are going to take a real hard hit - no closer jobs to be found, there, unless at fast-food restaurants at minimum wage or a little over.
I know of two people who got their gas allowance reapproved, at the same rate as last year, so they have to pick up the difference in cost themselves.
People are getting boxed in on every side. Can they afford to move? or change jobs?
Its crazy. Disastrous.

My gas allowance is the same as it was in 1987. Then, it was a really good supplement. Now, my monthly allowance barely covers a week of driving.

stonewallfan, I made a reference a few threads ago about government cuts. You are right in thinking that services will be cut - healthcare to the elderly, financial aid - even Meals On Wheels is letting go of some drivers already.
It my come down to the government feeding us, but if they do, how can they do everything else also? They will wind up as strapped as everybody else.

They already are...look at the deficit.

Six months and a year from now, today`s deficit will look good.
I don`t know how some people are going to be able to live through all this.
Our elderly population alone is higher than ever. And more needful than ever.

Oooooo, yuk!
About 15 years ago, I imagined that if things ever got to this point, cities would begin to implement a "busing system."
Say, everyone who lives on the east side drives to the east side mall and parks their car. Then everyone who works at a location on the route to Main Street, takes one bus (route), everyone who works on the route to High street, takes another bus (route), and so forth. ID cards would be required to ride one, and all of that, and this would be seen as a great solution!
This would lead to an even further conditioning of people to eventually believe that the mark of the beast is nothing but beneficial to mankind. :tsk
I realize this is a simplistic illustration, but I hope you get the idea...

Well, now, you gave me a thought there - if a man had enough money to buy a large passenger van, he could make some good money by ferrying people to work and back. Even with gas costing what it does today. Anything would beat driving. If I were in that position, I`d much rather pay $10/day for a ride, than $10/gas each way.
So maybe some people will start doing that. Enterprising Americans! ;)
