and i just wanted to share how disappointed i am with Solomon :doh what is wrong with the dude... all those good years, he builds the temple, God is happy with what he's done/doing. then he lets a bunch of women lead him astray!! :hehee what a moron... i don't care if he had 700 wives, he chose em. and 700, that's just rediculous! he could go almost 2yrs without talking to one of them - wait :scratch 'what a great idea' i hear the men say :heh

anywho - i'm upto chapter 15... I feel bad for the prophet that was lied to by another prophet. really dig the fact that the Lion stood beside the Donkey, that's sweet...that part reminds me of 'The Horse and His Boy' by C.S. Lewis, i'm sure he had read Kings before writing that

Human nature gets out of control when you have all the money in the world, all the women in the world, all the wisdom in the world, you rule the kingdom hands-down...no questions asked, and have the praise of nations and enemies who fear you.

Finally, because Solomon was married to [I]idol-worshipping women[/I ]..:tsk.... a flagrant violation of God's decree that you are not to take foreign wives (and for good reason), it cost him everything.

We went through 1st and 2nd Samuel yesterday at church, and I couldn't help but see the similarities between Saul and Solomon. Very sad.

Solomon did come to his senses though. He learned many things the hard way...much like many of us. Ecclesiastes was written after the Lord rebuked him in 1 Kings 11:9-13. Solomon finally learned that without God-all is vanity.

From my study notes on Ecclesiastes: Solomon learned that life without God was unjust. Oppression goes on, the wicked prosper, and the fruits of mans labor pass from his control. Not only this, but the Preacher ended up like the rest of the pleasure seekers of today, "You may as well enjoy yourself, because it will soon be over." Wisdom, pleasure, alcohol, human achievement, great riches, sex-all lead to emptiness, "vanity", if there is no proper relationship with God.

Did anybody notice that when Solomon was born (2Samuel 12:24) God loved him and sent word through Nathan the prophet that he was to be called Jedidiah? To this day however we call him Solomon. This is much like Jacob who had his name changed by God Himself to Israel but we still know him as Jacob.

Have you ever noticed in Genesis that whenever Jacob is referred to as Israel it has to do with spiritual matters? When he is called Jacob he is acting in a fleshly or worldly way. Maybe this is a clue to the whole Soloman/Jedidiah thing.

Am I on to something here or have I officially lost my mind???? :hehee

Yet many today still pray to win the lotto.

Others recognize that having that much money would absolutely
ruin their walk with the Lord and their testimony.

Not necessaily true. We had a pastor who said that Solomon was never saved. I guess the church is in disagreement over this.
