My middle daughter who will be 8 in November has never been able to stay dry at night. She has never had accidents during the day since she first became potty trained when she was around 3 or so. I will say though, that she urinates ALOT during the day. We went to see Prince Caspian at the movies on Saturday and I took her to the bathroom 3 times during the movie. She also went before the movie started and after it was over.

We have never made a big deal out of the nighttime thing. We just let her sleep in pullups. It's like she cannot wake up enough at night to know that she needs to go. On the few occassions that we ran out of pullups and she slept in regular undies, she would soak everything and not even wake up.

A few weeks ago, she said that she did not want pullups anymore. She said it made her feel like a baby and she wanted to try to go without them. For 2 weeks I woke her up every two hours to go potty. She was tired and grouchy and I was like a walking zombie. It just was not working. Not to mention, if we went over that 2 hour mark, everything was soaked.

So, back into pullups she went.

Have any of you all had similiar experiences with your kids? She will be having a check up next month with her pediatrician and I will certainly speak with him about it.

Like I said, I wouldn't even be concerned about it if she wasn't starting to be.

I have a child who is kinda like this. He is down to just once a week though. Have you asked your dr about this? I would not be as concerned about the night time as the frequent day time trips.

It sounds like her body just can't hold much at all. mix that with the a hard sleeper and more the night time issue.

:sorry you are going though this.

Thanks for your input. She'll be having a regular check up with her ped. next month and I'll discuss it with him then. I don't mind washing sheets or buying pullups or whatever. I just hate it for her because she seems to be feeling self conscious about it now.

Yes, my son JUST quit wetting the bed and he is 12. My other 2 boys had accidents too until they were around 9, but not nightly like my youngest. He didn't want to wear pullups either when he got older, but it meant I had to keep washing sheets daily. I didn't make a big thing out of it with him either, it's not their fault and it's embarrassing enough for them. I had him checked numerous times by doctors and he was physically fine, they said that some kids are just deep sleepers and can't wake up to go, but they all grow out of it and no one goes on their honeymoon needing pullups. haha He has been "dry" now for about 6 months. :yeah

One thing I did not do with my boys was make a big deal about either. I did lots of washing and would get them up two hrs after they went to bed. Yes, It was like taking a zombie to the bathroom. LoL After the two hrs for a week I would continue to move it up up an hr for another week and so on and so on. 3 hr then 4 hr then 5 hr after they went to bed.

Biblenuggetlady - I'm glad to hear a success story!! Praising that your son has stayed dry.

Cookes - I tried for 2 weeks waking her up every 2 hours and taking her to the potty. It was leaving us drained and cranky during the day. She's the type that is grumpy when tired anyway and it was just making her feel awful. I'd rather leave her in the pullups than do that again.

Needing to go that often(3 times in one movie :shocked) makes me concerned about juvenile diabetes. That is a lot of fluid passing through this young lady. Has her doctor been asked about this, you know, just to be sure?

My bed wetters are fine as long as their intake of fluid is limited the closer we get to bedtime. We only have accidents if they drink within an hour of bedtime.

I actually mentioned it to her ped. last fall when she was there for something or other. He was immediately concerned about juvenile diabetes especially since my mother is diabetic. However, after blood work, all her levels were normal.
