I never even considered that the rice shortage would affect my dog's food.

I just got a new bag of dog food and noticed that the kibble looked different. In talking to the manufacturer they said that with China, Myanmar disasters where we get alot of our rice from the export of rice is very low right now. They said that they hired a top notch formula guy to re formulate the carb's in the food to have very litte rice and will phase it out completely.

WOW.

OOPs the tittle should say changing! not changine. LOL

When I saw RICE capitalized, I thought this would be about Condi Rice and her short-comings re: peace in the Middle East. We have several RICE shortages now!

Rice is bad for dogs any way. Make your own dog food, save yourself tons of money and your dogs will be healther and happier.

We used to give our dog "dog stew" and "dog bread". I'd make stew out of vegetable peelings and meat. I made a cornbread like thing with flour I'd saved from flour coating meat - there's always a little left. You add a little cornmeal and bacon or sausage fat or frying oil and an egg - maybe a real dirty one from the coop or one that's cracked. Maybe some milk that's been put back in the fridge cuz the kids didn't finish it at supper...(I'm very frugal). Our dog thrived on this. Put leftovers on top. I figure if it's good enough for our family to eat - it's good enough for the dog! (No animal in my care has ever, EVER, eaten jello, tho.)
Now all our leftovers go to the rabbits, chickens and cat. Our dear dog died - not from eating our food - but from old age. She was such a good dog, none has been able to replace her.

I believe I read earlier that 40% of the world`s rice supply came from the delta in Myanmar that was just wiped out by the cyclone.
