COPEMISH, Mich. — An 11-year-old boy has been injured when an eagle attacked him during a walk through the woods in Manistee County, Michigan.

Radio station WKLA reported Alex Birch was attacked by the eagle about 9 p.m. Sunday in Copemish. He was treated at a local hospital for numerous cuts and scratches to his back, head and neck.

It was not clear what led to the attack.

Copemish is located in the northern portion of the Lower Peninsula about 25 miles southwest of Traverse City and 105 miles north of Grand Rapids.

I saw this last night on the local news. He had about a one inch gash on the back of his head, a small puncture would on back of his neck and one near his collarbone, they were both very, very, small and didn't require stitches. They showed it all clearly so it sounds like they went a little overboard in their reporting.

He was clearly shaken up, but he was walking around the woods showing the reporters where it happened.

I think it's more the fact that an eagle attacked than the wounds suffered....shouldn't be due to nesting as their nests are really high.....eagles just don't attack people that I've ever heard, weiner dogs yes (happened to my ex-bosses in-law's dog when they went to alaska), people no.....hmmmmm

I understand it freaked me out too, but it just sounded like they'd overblown the story a little bit. They did say it was because he was too close to the nest, so I just kind of accepted that as being why.

they left that nugget out of the story above, figures!! The story above says it's unclear what led to the attack....:ohno

I'm pretty new here and was wondering something.

What does this eagle attack on a boy have to do with last day events?

I'm sorta new too but probably it relates to the idea of animals behaving badly. Or I guess acting strangly..........??? Sensing that things in nature are off.

What's an 11 year old boy doing "walking through the woods" at 9PM?

Where were his parents at the time and why wasn't he with them???

"mangled"???

A bit of sensationalism if you ask me.
