For a nation who's economy depends on Christmas sales, yet turns it's back on Jesus.

Do you have a budget for Christmas this year, or are you going to spend it all on gas and food? :aha

Both funny and sad. :tsk

Christmas, this year, is going to be spent hunting deer and boar with my son.

It'll be a Christmas to remember; his first hunt, and our first hunt together :D

For those of us who have children, we would be doing them a favor to not buy gifts and show them the value of family.

Start new traditions.

My 9 year old and 7 year old DD's both want gameboy DS's. I laid one back at K-mart a few weeks ago and when I get that one paid out, I'll lay back another one. Those will be the 2 most expensive gifts. Any others I have to get, I'll try to buy one each week until done. I figure if I can get gifts now, I won't have to worry about it later when everything is even more expensive.

Our kids are getting playhouses this year. We are getting most of the building supplies free off of Craigs list. My kids for some reason are really stand offish from toys made in China now. So instead of getting a bunch of toys, they are getting season passes to Disney from my parents and my in-laws are making furniture for their playhouses. All I want for Christmas is to be pregnant and that will cost the most of everything.

We aren't thinking that far ahead. This weekend is as far as we are thinking at the moment. Bringing daughter home from university.

we budget a set amount for our girls and for family for Christmas and set it aside. I used to start buying Christmas gifts on December 26 for the next Christmas. But I don't think I will do that anymore. Last year, I had just bought a lot of cake decorating equipment for Amanda when she died. Then I had to deal with what to do with all the things I had for her. That just added to the pain. So, I will wait til mid-November and do a lot of ordering over the internet. I think that will be easier. I did pick up some stuffed animals at the store for the babies in the family for this year but that's about it.

I'm going to start buying one thing at a time now. We only buy 3 presents each for the kids anyways (since Jesus only got three gifts too :)).

The end of Christmas as we know it may be a true blessing. Just keep to the essentials and set your heart on the Lord Jesus, born as a babe to a poor family, coming soon as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. There are many ways to celebrate that don't involve a ton of money.
