I sold a ton of stuff at a flea market yesterday and I called my propane provider to see if I could buy now (350 gallons to fill my 500 gallon tank) at today's price and receive delivery in the fall. When I asked the current price, I nearly fainted. $2.75 a gallon! It was $1.75 last fall, 2.25 in March, and now $2.75. That's over $900 to fill my tank, and with tax, over $1000. And that does not last me the whole winter.
If you use propane or heating oil, I would suggest trying to fill your tank soon.
I heard that prices normally go down on these products in July because those companies and in dire need of cash flow, but I don't know whether I should wait.
What do you think? It's going to be a long cold winter in Ohio. . . again.

We used to be much more self-sufficient here. We used to burn wood and then went to electric baseboards. Our house is small and at most costs almost $200 in January or Feb. It's gone down now to $77 for May (it's been cold in WI). In the summer I used to be able to get it down to $30, but I doubt that'll happen again.
I wonder how much electricity will go up. I wish my dh would finish the new chimney and hook up our woodstove just in case.

I just heard today that oil is 4.59 and last year I locked in at 2.79. I think it will be a cold winter.

Heating oil at $4.59? Oh my. That's just terrible.

I would hate to suggest the wrong thing to you but perhaps it's better to be safe than sorry? One ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.
It may go back down in July, but chances are more likely that it won't.
They know it won't be long untill it gets cold and you really need it. What if the price is 4.75 by the time you need it? I would buy it now and take delivery NOW before the price goes up any further or they for some reason run out.
My two pennies, just don't clobber me in July if the price is less, please...:hug

I am really thankful that we live in a third floor condo and heat rises. Plus we have plenty of fleece clothing, wool socks, and quilts-blankets-comforters. After seeing the price of heating oil and knowing our electric bill will go up 18% starting in July, I will also be thankful for hot flashes during the coming winter season. :hehee

My heat is furnished. I am expecting a rent hike, any day, to compensate for the increased heating costs this coming winter. And rightly so... I guess... :(

My son has an apartment in Parma that has heat included. When he was looking to move last year, I told him that was the #1 feature he needed to search for. He stayed toasty last winter and I didn't have to help him pay huge heating bills. (College student - mom still footing some of the bills)
