INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Residents cleaned up Saturday after a tornado plowed a trail of destruction through the east side of Indianapolis, but they gave thanks that nobody was killed and that the only injuries were minor.
The storm blew through late Friday, ripping roofs off several apartment buildings, snapping trees and toppling power lines. Eighteen people were treated for "very minor" injuries, said John Ball, the area's emergency management director.

"It is a miracle that we didn't have serious injuries or death," he said. "A gentleman told me last night at the shelter that he was lying in bed and heard a rumble, and the roof was gone and he saw the sky." ..

Yes, we get alot of tornados. Schools have tornado drills, local tv news always has tornado preparedness week... Tornado are to this part of the country as hurricanes are to coastal areas. Now the earthquake a few weeks ago... that wasn't normal. We have lived in this house five years and have had to take cover at least four or five times. And we don't take cover on every warning, only when we hear of one within a few miles of us.

I live east of Indy. I am an amateur radio operator. I was out storm spotting Friday night. We received damage from the storms as well. My son and I observed a very large wall cloud in the area of I-70 and S.R. 109. This was shortly after the tornado struck Indy.

I grew up on the far east side of Indy. Lots of tornadoes. However, we now live in S. Indiana and experienced the earth quake a few weeks back. THAT is unusual.

Watching the news right now and can hear the storm sirens blare. LOTS AND LOTS of tornados through here last night and this morning. Waiting for light to know where all the damage is. There is a lot of wind right now and constant lightening.

Most damage south and southwest of Indianapolis. It seems so far. I have already seen 3 towns hit by tornados last night
