I've never rooted for this team, but I am so impressed with the way they've played baseball this year. They have never been over .500 in June from what I can recall. And not only do they have a winning record they're more than 10 games over .500 and in 1st place. Usually by now they're mired in last place 10 games or more under .500. They will be playing the Red Sox next in Fenway that ought to be a tough test for them. I hope they can keep playing like this the whole season. It's nice to see someone other than the Red Sox or Yankees dominating that division. No offense to fans of those teams intended. :)

Yeah, Rays management trades with my Twins to get two of our top young players--Bartlett and Garza--and all of a sudden they are contending. Meanwhile, we get the lumbering slow and error prone Delmon Young (zero home runs so far in 216 ABs) and Brendan Harris, a guy that can play three infield positions with equal mediocrity.
It's taken the Rays a long time, but they've finally put the pieces together--defense and pitching--that should serve them well for years to come.

Sorry, but the Blue Jays will finish ahead of the Yankees. The Yankees have an aging, slow lineup. The Blue Jays pitching is better than the Yankees. I do agree with you that the Red Sox will take the AL East.

Yes, we know it's a long season and most likely the Rays won't be where they are now, later, however it is nice to see someone else from the AL East play good baseball for a change. Nice to know you don't have to pay big $$$ to have a competitve team for once.

Anyone else notice how the Rays started doing well as soon as they dropped the "Devil" from their name? Maybe it's a sign from the Lord! I'm definitely going to be pulling for them to finish well this year.

Yes, isn't that something how when the 'devil' was removed from their name they somehow started to play well. :)
In reality their pitching and defense is the reason they're doing so well. I really hope they keep it up for the whole year!

I wonder if Griffey Jr gets traded to Tampa some time in July...
