yoga can be spiritually dangerous

yoga basically means yoke... yoke to the false demon/gods of that religion

so, its a "when in doubt".....pass on it IMHO

Pilates is supposed to be an excellent alternative, without the iffy spiritual connections....

...don't know if they have anything like pilates for wii... but maybe a kids music dancercise game?

Wii is way out of my justifiable price range, so i know very little about whats available for it.

i wish i could have it for the baseball game though *sniffle*

we have a few thread here regarding yoga.. it's based in eastern mysticism and believers should stay clear of it completely. Do a search here with the word Yoga.

I doubt Wii Fit really contains a course in mystical training. Like most Western implementations of Eastern mind-body training systems (such as yoga and martial arts) the spiritual aspects are pretty comprehensively stripped out, leaving only the physical exercises. As such, I wouldn't get your knickers in a twist about it.

I wouldn't do it for reasons already mentioned. Plus with names of the poses such as salutation to the sun and moon, and offering. also if you do a search on yoga you come up with a lot of stuff on hinduism and buddhism.

Finally as an example, people should not be tricked. If I go out and buy a buddha statue and put it in my house, say in my kitchen and people come over knowing that I am a christian, they might say, hey why do you have a buddha statue. I could say well it is a buddha statue, but I decided it is now going to be something else, perhaps just a statue of someone. No matter what I say though it does not take away from the fact that it is indeed a buddha statue. Hope that makes sense. Anyways there is a whole thread on this as mentioned so I'll leave my thoughts at that.

Just remember that there are personal convictions playing here as well.

We were able to get our Wii Fit yesterday. The wife and kids are having a wonderful time with it.

For me personally, I am more convicted not to celebrate Christmas and Easter due the the backgrounds of those holidays than I am not to use something like Wii Fit. But I respect the wishes of my wife and family to honor the traditions around thos holidays. For me - I'd rather honor the God ordained celebrations outlined in scripture.

Just saying, don't let your convictions become the judgment on the validity of the convictions of others.

In Christ,
Robert

Getting rid of your Wii because one of the many options it offers might be objectionable, would equate to getting rid of your tv because some of the programs available are objectionable...I got a Wii because it's something I can do with my grandkids. We bowl, play tennis and baseball, shoot a round of golf, etc. It's a lot of fun and you do get a bit of a workout just doing those. I'm waiting for the second generation Wii fit, to see if they will incorporate the possibility of allowing you to create an exercise program that will suit you personally. That way you don't have to stop between exercises. And you never have to use the yoga program...
