Actually this is a very good move. Web site providers who don't have a Mac currently put off checking to see if the web site works on Safari, so Apple users who keep with Safari don't get the best web experience.

I agree - I thought it was a very good move on Apple's part.

Over Firefox? Not sure - yet. On a Mac, it's quicker; and many have seen speed gains. Right now it's a beta, so may be better to stick with Firefox for your standard browser.

Well, I D/L'd it, and I have to say I'm impressed.
I completely cleared EVERYTHING from Firefox and Internet Explorer, and then had both of them access www.usatoday.com - it has quite a bit of content, and differing technologies.
IE - 10 sec.
Firefox - 6 sec.
Safari - 4 sec.
Plus, Safari started up in ONE second. :thumb

I use both on my Mac - Safari starts up a tad quicker, and both load in about the same amount of time; but there are things about Safari I'm not crazy about, yet. Maybe that'll change - but for now I stick with Firefox due to the stuff that Safari lacks (a drop down bar for one).
