There are a lot of people searching, and rather than write about what's happening in the news, I decided to write about something much more important. People are looking for meaning, purpose and assurance; they're looking for God. And it seems as though we have done such a poor job of showing them where to look that they're turning to ridiculous counterfeits, including the Church of Oprah.

Sure, she's popular – even if her television ratings have slipped, she's got her own network and is on the cover of her magazine every single month. But now she's leading people astray by the millions, and I'm not just talking about her campaign for Barack Obama. What bothers me most is that Oprah claims to know better than Jesus. When it comes to getting to heaven, she confidently proclaims, "There couldn't possibly be just one way."

She can have online "courses on miracles" all day long, but she and her friends aren't the ones who perform them. It doesn't matter how confident she is. It doesn't matter how rich she is. How popular, how sincere or how well-meaning. The bottom line is what Oprah says doesn't matter. What I say doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is what Jesus Christ Himself said.

Could there possibly be just one way? Here's the answer: Christ said, "I am the way, the Truth and the Life, no man cometh unto the Father except by me" (John 14:6 KJV).

Pretty clear stuff. If "all roads" really "lead to heaven," then why did Christ have to die? Doesn't make sense. If there are lots of roads, why not just choose a much less expensive one? Jesus would have preferred another way, too. In Matthew 26:39, He said, "Oh my Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will."

But there wasn't another way. If God didn't have to send His Son to be tortured and crucified to make the one way to heaven, then He wouldn't have.

Oprah adds her voice to all the talk about how "narrow-minded" and "intolerant" it is for us to say that Christ is the only way to heaven.

Question: If there were only one exit out of the burning building, would I be "intolerant" and "narrow-minded" to proclaim it to you? I know I might "offend" the people who think the basement door will get them out, or those who would seek an exit by opening the very hot door with the flaming inferno inside. I'm sorry that I may be "insensitive" by not "affirming" your beliefs, and I know I run the risk of hurting your feelings, but I would rather save your life. You see, I care more about you than whether or not you like me.

Instead of whining that there aren't more ways to be reconciled with God, we ought to be celebrating that there is a way.

Our efforts to try and get to God are like trying to jump across the Grand Canyon. You may have won an Olympic medal in the broad jump, but no matter how good you think you are, trying to jump the Grand Canyon by your own strength, even with a running start, won't cut it. But unlike every other religion in the world that tries to work their way to God, Christianity is the story about how God came to us and built a bridge with one (and only one) blood-stained cross.

We don't deserve it. We didn't earn it. It wasn't our blood that built that bridge. But we have two choices: walk across the only bridge or jump off the cliff. That's the thing about gravity. It doesn't matter whether or not you believe it exists. And it doesn't matter how educated, how popular, confident or sincere you are about your belief. It doesn't matter what a nice person you are: Jump off the cliff and gravity will prove itself. Unfortunately, once gravity kicks in, it will be too late to reconsider that jump.

My message to Oprah and to the millions who are attending her "online church":

What I say doesn't matter. What Oprah says doesn't matter. What God says does. If I'm going to choose whom to listen to, I'm going to choose the one with nail scars from building the bridge. I'm going to choose the one door out of the burning building. You can take all the courses on miracles you want or you can go to the source of them all. Take the bridge or find out for yourself that gravity is very real. :panic

Jesus is right. If there are many ways to God as Ms. Winfrey says, then Jesus died in vain. I assure everyone, Ms. Winfrey included, that Jesus did NOT die in vain. He says Himself that He is the ONLY way to the Father and Ms. Winfrey and her followers believing otherwise doesn't make it any less true. Frankly, Oprah has lost her mind and I don't pay any attention to anything she says anymore because I don't take advice from crazy people who believe all this :newage garbage.

Again, today my spirit is so very down. I posted earlier in the week about
how my sister-in-law and her daughter brought up reading the book "A New
Earth" by Eckhart Tolle. This was at a family graduation party. When I objected to reading the book, etc. I felt I was being ganged up on and made to feel like "you don't understand the book". I told them I understood more than they know. I told them that this does not jive with what Jesus says;
citing John 14:6 (my son's confirmation life verse) and that we do sin...we need a savior...there is only one way. My mother defended my position.
Now my husband told me last night that he believes I am a fanatic, etc.
He apologized this morning but the damage was done. I am wounded to the very core. I feel like there is such a rejection of Jesus; even by my own family members. I feel so alone and left my church because it is getting more liberal by the year. They are having Tony Campolo come back for the third time now. Tony Campolo says the most important thing in the Bible is feeding the poor. The most important thing in the Bible is actually accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. There is so much twisting of scripture or abandoning doctrine now.....the article in this thread is such a good one and so well written. It's exactly what I believe and how I feel too. And at the same time, I find the whole Eckhart/Oprah influence very disturbing...and my spirit is grieving.

Diamond, if it is any comfort, just know that husbands often say things in the heat of a discussion before they've really thought it out, and sometimes it just comes out wrong. As a wife, I speak from experience, lol! :hug

Our pastor used to tell us that kids in high school used to call him a "Jesus Freak." And whenever he'd hear it, he'd yell "Thank you!" He told us he considered it the ultimate compliment!

So if you're a fanatic, you're in good company. I'll be happy to be a co-"Jesus fanatic" right along with you! But personally I think you and Mom are the only ones in your family in their right minds on this one, regarding the whole Eckart/Oprah thing.

Jesus never said walking His path would be easy. But He DID say we wouldn't have to do it alone! He is with you,and I'll bet He's very proud of how you're representing Him. :)

I am a proud Jesus Freak and fanatic for Jesus. I love my God with all my heart and soul. Jesus Christ is my Savior. My daily prayer for all the lost souls of this dying world is that they also accept God's gift of salvation and accept Jesus as their Savior. One day Oprah will bow and confess that Jesus is Lord. Jesus is the only way, period.

If somebody thinks Oprah even "holds a candle" to Jesus Christ then I just have to almost drop my jaw in disbelief. What "gospel" is she preaching? (Obviously, not the true, authentic Biblical one). What is her life track record? (Not perfect righteousness and holiness, like Jesus Christ). Is she willing to die on the cross for sins? What claims does she make about herself? Is she willing to state that she is the "Way, the Truth, and the Life?" Is she willing to state she is the begotten One sent by the Father God? Is she willing to state she is from above, as in Heaven? (Isn't she from Kentucky?). (If she made those claims, I can't imagine what people would think). How many songs does she appear in (not hardly one I can really think of, she is certainly not the subject of thousands of hymns, written through the ages, motived by true, natural reverance from the heart, like Jesus Christ is). Can Oprah calm a storm at sea? Can Oprah save a soul after death? I'm just throwing out real questions, and stating obvious facts.

If you look at the end of the Age, revealed in the Bible, it looks to involve an anti-christ trying to demand worship, and false Christs, and false prophets performing false signs and miracles. It all reveals what we are shown about satan in the Bible: Trying to be like God, and trying to take worship away from the one, true Creator Lord God.

In the Book of Revelation, to me it almost reads like men are aware of, and purposefully are battling against, the unseen, eternal Holy Lamb of God. Pretty foolish, considering men are small and feeble, just dust and ashes, that can't create an earth or sun -- nor anything created. No wonder the "Lake of Fire" is a punishment so severe.
