The only thing that the Mayan calendar was good for was astronomy. They were actually pretty good at predicting eclipses and movement of the planets, based on observing them carefully, not any supernatural powers.

Why people think this gives them powers to see the end of the world is beyond me though! :rolleyes

There are some interesting astronomical things going on in the sky in 2012, there is a comet making a close approach to Earth, and a solar maximum too, I think.

Some of the "Bible Code" people have also weighed in, and made their own end of the world prediction for that year. I think psychic Edgar Cayce and goofy ol' Nostradamus probably made their own set of predictions for that year as well. So all the predictions are kind of getting lumped together and it's scaring the secular world.

But all of that, thankfully, has NOTHING to do with us! Our Savior will come on his own timeframe, according to, and ONLY according to, those prophesies found in the Bible. :yeah

Yeah, apparently there are a bunch of different occult sources that claim that something big will happen in 2012, but it's obviously not going to be the Rapture since Jesus doesn't even know when that's happening! However, I suspect it has to do with the A/C in some regard.:thinking

Well the date 2012 the scientists are saying that there will be a shift in the magnetic poles where everything will essentially get reversed and everything as we know it will go crazy bad.

Not giving any credence to this year but it does fit if you factor in the idea that 2008 is the year of Jesus's return (this is NOT date setting, after all I mention the year and it is possible that it could happen this year right?), 2012 would be right smack in the middle of 2008 - 2012 - 2015.

In revelation, the Anti-Christ makes a 7 year treaty with Israel, but breaks this treaty about 3 1/2 years into it, right at the half mark and causes the "abomination that causes desolation" (not sure if thats the exact phrase but ya know what I mean).

and it is after this event that the REALLY bad stuff starts to happen, with 1/3 of life as we know it being wiped out, oceans and rivers turning to blood (lava?), etc....really horrific things <- find the rest of the descriptions in Revelations in the Bible!

So 2012 could actually be the year when things on earth literally goes to hell.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that in the Bible it doesn't really say anything about the "End of the World" but basically God and Jesus are going to Clean House for a while and start over. We are in the testing phase, whoever passes and gets the A gets to go to Heaven and if you fail well then you have a chance to redeem yourself after the rapture during the tribulation but you have to pass that test finally, or your basically done. Then Jesus comes back to the Earth and reigns a pure World with all good people. If it were the end of the world then it would not be here to reign right?

God is going to create a new Heaven and a new Earth b/c the current ones have been corrupted (fallen angels and sin). The current Earth will be destroyed by fire. The last chapter in Revelation talks some about the new Earth.

The World has gone through many ages, each one having an end. Now we hear a lot about The New World Order. For it to begin, This world as it is now Known, will also end.
The Earth remains through it all. We are instructed to not be a part of this World. It doesn't say not to be, of the Earth. The World is Society, As the Church is us Members.
That's how I see it.

Those who have trusted Christ alone to forgive them of their sins before the rapture begins have "passed the test." Those who wait till after the rapture will still have a opportunity to be saved, but it will cost them their lives.

Then Jesus comes back to the Earth and reigns a pure World with all good people. If it were the end of the world then it would not be here to reign right?

Jesus then returns with the saints who were raptured (that would be us) and we reign with him for 1000 years. During that time those who made it through the tribulation will repopulate the earth. After the 1000 year reign is over, Satan will be released to deceive those who are on the earth one last time.

There is nothing special about 2012. I'm sick of hearing about the Mayan calendar. They were a pagan culture. Why would we be paying any attention to a date set by pagans?
