Couldn't resist being from the Tombstone area.

Not a bad appearing system. I have a 22" HP WS LCD (more viewing area than my TV), love it. To bad it's stuck with Vista, although I'm not familiar with 64-bit Vista, if it's anything like 64-bit Linux, be prepared for some software issues unless they're hiding those (installing 32-bit compatibility modules etc).

You have problems with 64-bit Linux? What distro? I haven't had any hassles with 64-bit Linux for years.

I haven't had any hassles with 64-bit Linux for years.I'm running 64-bit on this desktop as I type, but some sites don't like the open source version of Flash (gnash??) and on site I use on a regular basis has a rich-text editor which will not work under open Java (icetea), so I have to use the workarounds (either 32-bit modules in wrappers and/or 32-bit firefox).

Gnash is still really buggy. I just use the normal Flash plugin and i've never had any problems.

Absolutely, although Ubuntu has made the wrapper so painless to use that I tend to forget i'm installing a 32-bit package.

Btw, I found a good remix of Ubuntu the other day. It's called Kiwi Linux and has all the multimedia/Flash/Java/medibuntu/etc pre-installed without all the other cruft you get in Mint. Probably a good one to recommend to first-timers.

I found one for $896.00. Is that a fair price for this old goat?

It looks like an OK machine, especially with the LCD screen that comes with it.

Depending if you have existing software and hardware (older printers, specialized software that isn't upgraded), 64 bit Vista may be a great thing, or it may be a hair puller. I personally like 64 bit Vista because it uses all four gigs of the RAM, and runs faster in general. However, if drivers are an issue, its harder to find them for 64 bit operating systems than 32 bit ones.
