From Proud Parenting.com: Gay dads celebrate Father’s Day with Rick Warren, author of "The Purpose Driven Life"
This Father’s Day, a group of LGBT ( ed. note Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender) and straight-ally families will spend their holiday in a way that is both extraordinary and profoundly commonplace:
they will attend services at Saddleback Church, the mega-church founded by Rick Warren, author of The Purpose Driven Life.
The following day, the families will join leaders from Saddleback Church for a private meal and conversation.
The visit is the conclusion of a six-week journey, a gay-friendly family road trip, to initiate dialogue with mega-church congregations across the nation.
In December 2007, organizers of the project - which is called The American Family Outing - invited the leaders of six major mega-churches to match families from their congregations
with LGBT families for a meal and conversation.
Then, on Mother’s Day 2008, the outing began with a visit to Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas…
…The American Family Outing is a collaboration between Soulforce
COLAGE, National Black Justice Coalition, and the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches.

From one of your links, Billiefan:
In response, Rick Warren told reporters at the Baptist World Alliance’s Centenary Congress that the withdrawal of Southern Baptists from the BWA was a “silly” mistake. “I see absolutely zero reason in separating my fellowship from anybody,” he declared. Noting he has theological differences with many of the diverse denominations that invite him to speak, Warren added, “That doesn't stop me from fellowshipping with them.”
I'm a little conflicted on this. I know we need to teach Christ to everyone ~ all are sinners and Jesus Himself didn't isolate Himself from them.
Yet, here it says in 2 Cor. 6:
14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? 15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said:
“ I will dwell in them
And walk among them.
I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.”[c]
17 Therefore
“ Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you.”[d] 18 “ I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,
Says the LORD Almighty.”[e]
How I understand it is we are to preach Christ, we are to speak to the gay community the Word of God and bring the good news of the Gospel. Yet we are not to 'fellowship' with them, certainly not to worship with them. And fellowship means, to me anyway...friendship, as in hanging out together, being part of what they believe in.
I see RW behaving more and more unstable and untaught in his ways.
2 Peter 3:
in which are some things hard to understand, which [B]untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.

and there is also this to consider:
2Cr 11:12 And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about.
2Cr 11:13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ.
2Cr 11:14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.
2Cr 11:15 It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.
I would guess that these groups are coming to the churches because they consider themselves of like-faith (why else would they be so bent on meeting with these church leaders)...if so, God is pretty clear that a believer who is living in perpetual sin must be put out and disfellowshiped (i can't find scripture reference but i know its in there. i had thought it was corinthains, but didn't find it..)
so unless Warren is planning to remind them of that, I can't imagine any reason for his lunch.

what does he think he's doing?
he's pleasing man, of course. :tsk
(although i would be extremely happy to retract that thought if he actually preaches the gospel to them and lets them know that their sin putting them at enmity with God....)

Well, Pastor Bob DeWaay has recently confronted and challenged Warren about this.
I'm not going to hold my breath. :ohno

I think that there is a fine line between being kind to sinners and sharing the love of Christ and fellowshipping with darkness. Once again, a social gospel blurs the line between right and wrong. No wonder people are confused when the leaders can't lead.

his bride,
you hit that one right on the head. Totally agree with you there, and couldn't put it better than you did!
i think also a big thing to consider is How is the world seeing this meeting? What does Warren expect to come away from it with? We already know what the other side hopes for....but what is Warren's angle? Important stuff to know.

Thanks, scrappergirl. I can't say what Warren hopes to come away with, but the world we see him as superman, able to unite diverse peoples with a single bound.

and that is what's so troubling. unity under the umbrella of a lie rather than the truth. its a very popular thing in churches today, though, isn't it?
sigh....
