I'm up here in York Beach, Maine. We left Friday 3:30Pm et No traffic at all, no back up at tolls in NH, or Maine tolls! The resort we're at (I'm using the hotel computer in lobby), is busyish today but the are isn't as busy as it usually is. In fact, we even got a parking space at Nubble lighthouse lookout, both yesterday and today! Highly unusual!
Anyone else seeing any slow downs?

No one I know is skipping vacation this year. In fact several of my friends have added a few more trips for later in the fall and one shortly after the New Year.

Oh, that is good to hear. The hotel staff told dh and I that it was business is off here, although last night this place was full. And people come here from everywhere, lic. plates from as far away as Colorado, Virginia, New York, New Jesrsey, Penn, etc. But even the restaraunts were not busy at all. Last night some were, but over all traffic is way down ( I like that part!). Btw, it was quite cool here up until this morning, now that heat wave moved in but on the ocean is is so beautiful, praise God!

Anyone else notice a slow down yet? Or adding lots of extra vacations?
Maybe it's too early to tell yet. Gas here is ave. 4:19 now. To add all those vacations you'll have to be fairly well off, I think gas will go even higher by fall and next year. Who knows! But I am sure grateful for the ONE vaca I just had, Praise God!

Yep, people just seem to be going on as normal. (as in the days of Noah?) Where I live, everyone is complaining about feeling the pinch, but there is no real evidence of anyone changing their driving habits or lifestyles. (I'm north of Atlanta--traffic is horrendous. The last time I went through downtown--3 weeks ago--it was 12 lanes of bumper-to-bumper, and hardly any cars were carrying passengers.)
It will hit, though. Not to be Chicken Little or anything, but I think things will get much worse and they'll get worse very fast. When they hit, it will be like a massive sucker punch.

With diesel prices near 5.00 per gallon .............I can say with complete assurance that things are affecting travel plans for many people, I saw the way things were heading and parted with a fifthwheel toy hauler...........there is no way I am paying the price for diesel to drag a big RV around.:tsk
Another thing is who actually thinks the prices are going to go back down, we are headed for unbelievable problems............one may say of biblical proportions.
Today our pastors sermon was on simplifing our lives, we need to get back to some basics and quit running around with our heads cut off like a bunch of stupid chickens.

sometimes when you rent a car the license plates re from all over the country. They didn't necessarily drive from the states that the license plates are from

I know we aren't taking a vacation this year. We can afford to, but choose not to. We're socking away every dime we can b/c we know things are only going to get worse.

We always go to see DH parents in N.H every summer. So that is the plan right now but that could change. The kids are also doing camp again this year.
