Have any of you read this amazing space trilogy written by C.S. Lewis? :faint
I'm nearly done with the second book, Perelandra. I'm just floored at the depth and beauty of the story. If I was told I could only read one (fiction-writing) author for the rest of my life, it would be Lewis. Brilliant.

Oh yeah! I've read everything C.S. Lewis wrote. I even own signed first editions of the above (George Unwin, London 1st eds) along with signed first editions of the Narnia Chronicals. Same with Tolkien (Hobbit & LOTR trilogy). Also, have "The Screwtape Letters" and "The Great Divorce".
Thought the hubby would kill me when I bought the Tolkiens but that was before the movies and they weren't cheap but now they're insured for about five times what I paid for them. He's happy now.:pound
I'm a book nut. My heavy hitters like the above though are archived properly and I buy regular hardback copies for my library so I don't shoot someone for touching them.
Bit of trivia.........did you know that Tolkien got his idea for the Ents from Lewis' space trilogy series? Uh huh. I kid you not.

As influential as Lewis and Tolkien were to each other in faith and friendship, I'm not too surprised. Though it is interesting to see that influence surface in their works. I can't wait to meet them both in Heaven.

I read where they agreed to each write a trilogy. Lewis about space travel and Tolkien about time travel. From what I understand Tolkien's was never finished.

I think that will be very interesting and I'd like to know if they're still arguing about Christian allegory in fictional writing. :pound As you know C.S. Lewis was all about doing it and Tolkien was firmly opposed. His son was a priest and he felt it was somehow sacrilegious (I don't have the references to cite this right now but can if someone wants me to they are in letters Tolkien wrote). Anyway, their arguments got pretty heated......especially after a pint or two.:hat

I not so sure. Can you cite me a source on that? I'm a Tolkien nut and have extensively studied his history and biography and have all his work including letters etc. and he only seemed interested in writing about Middle Earth and nothing else. I also have works and letters by Unwin his London publisher and his son where they tried to get Tolkien to write about other things but he refused.
