He didn't say where she'd heard it, but I just talked to someone who said his girlfriend heard there was another stimulus check being considered for later in the year. Anyone heard that? Of course, you always hear of people saying things like htat, but it just made me wonder - will the American people start to depend on this now? Or, even worse, if we do go into hyper inflation, would this maybe be the new equivalent of people in Weimar Germany being paid twice a day? The government just sending everyone money all the time? :ohno

Good question! Of course they "could"......and they could do it every month, which they should. Stop giving money to other countries to fight their own drug wars (i.e., Mexico, Afghanistan, etc.) and keep the money here to stimulate our economy. Think of the surplus money available if we stopped exploring UFO-friendly Mars!
And don't forget to claim this on your income taxes or you'll end up with fines and interest........:idunno

It was stupid once. Twice would be worse, if that's possible.

Agreed, yet, I have heard it too- about a month ago. This is the second time I've heard mention.

Bush was talking about new measures as a response to Friday's action. At this point it was all talk. In fact, he basically retracted what he said (after things cooled down) and said that we need to wait for this stimulus package to do its job.
But yes, they can do another stimulus package for as much as they want whenever they want by whatever means they want for any criteria they want. I almost consider it likely.

My tax person said that this was tax free...it doesn't have to be claimed.

:nod This is a stimulus package, not a "tax rebate" so it is not required to be reported as income and thereby taxed. That is what was so different than previous ones.

I posted a link to a story about this a while back. The stimulus was originally intended to be part of the 2008 tax season - in other words, you would become eligible for it when you filed your 2008 taxes. The government decided to bump it up a year. SOOOO, if your income were to change (decrease) or if you had more children between the time you filed your 2007 taxes to the time you filed your 2008 taxes, you might be eligible for another check that would, in effect, bring you to where you should be. The article also said that no one will have to give back any amount that was more than what they really would have figured while filing their 2008 federal tax return.
The article came out too late to benefit me, I fear. I didn't qualify for the "rebate" on my 2007 federal return, so I allowed my ex- to claim both of my kids. I will probably not be allowed to claim them for purposes of the rebate for the 2008 tax year because he already did. That royally stinks.
