We're selling our farmette by owner. When I place the classified ads, I want to do a minimal description, then refer them to a www(.com) address to view photos and read descriptions.
Upon investigating, I found I also have to buy a domain. Is that the same as domain parking:idunno? Then I have a choice of starter, standard, or professional hosting. Do I need these? And my last question is, I'd only need this address and domain for 30 days. I'm going to be running the classified ad for 2 Sundays, so I figured I only need this accessible for 30 days. If we get no bites, we'll go with a realtor. Can I get a website for 30 days and then cancel:idunno? Any advise or suggestions would be greatly welcome. Thanks.

Domain parking is not what you need, that is something different.
Domain registration is yearly, but it only runs about $8 for a whole year. And you can get Hosting for about $4 for 30 days. So that would be your only expenses.
I would go with either...
www.godaddy.com
www.1and1.com
They can handle both the registration of your domain and your hosting.
It is fairly simple to get started once you get over just a couple of simple hurdles. It seems a lot harder than it really is. PM me and I will help you with it.

Or you can use a free host like 987mb (http://www.987mb.com/). With that, its free but you have <your username>.987mb.com

I've found Yahoo has some nice features if you are doing a Web business, but you can't go wrong with GoDaddy for the most part. They even have inexpensive SSL (secure Web server) certificates.

If you only need this for a temporary advertisement, to show pictures, you shouldn't need to purchase a whole domain. Just upload your photos and descriptions to a free image host like photobucket (http://www.photobucket.com) and give out the link to it. You can save the descriptions in JPG format also. (Just hit Print Screen and paste it into Paint and save).

You can upload photos and description in a very nice format for FREE by just setting up a blog at blogger.
www.blogger.com or www.blogspot.com
Then your address will look like this (sitename).blogspot.com
