I have a mental disability(schizophrenia) which makes it impossible for me to hold down a job. I am on medication for it and am doing fine but i dont handle stress well. I am living at home with my parents(never moved out actually). Here is my problem. I am very very bored. For a long time i played online games and console games to pass the time and read sci-fi and fantasy books. Now it seems like i've reached a point where i just dont enjoy any of these things as much as i used to. The problem is when i get bored i get unhappy and then i get depressed, which really isnt good for me. Any suggesstions for ways to pass the time?

How do you do with structured Bible study?

... are there any hobby type things you might like to try? making things, crafting... learning languages, learning a new skill?

Hobbies I love are painting, and woodworking, and crochet.
You might try some of those.
You might look into different kinds of hobbies, that you might like to do and that might bring you some income.
People do their hobbies and sell some of their work all the time.

Something else I've always thought might be good for people who could not hold a traditional job is tax preparation.
A person could take a class in that, if you're good at math, and that's a seasonal thing. It wouldn't be something that would tie you up all year. That can be done out of your home.

:preach Nothing beats reading the Word of God! Continuous reading and study of the Bible has helped me through many difficult trials.:preach

Take up a hobby, and evolve it into something more. I started building my own computers when I was fifteen, and now it's evolved into me getting numerous certifications for networking. Just find something you enjoy doing and pursue it.

Have you ever tried going through an agency that helps the mentally ill find appropriate jobs? My BIL has schizophrenia and doesn't handle stress well just like you and he was placed in a job at an AFB on the janitorial staff...he is doing so well that he has been voted "employee of the quarter" twice already! They are actually begging him to let them promote him to supervisor but he doesn't think he could handle the stress. It's keeping him occupied and away from temptations to get back into drinking and drugs.:thumb

My MIL works in job placement for the mentally ill...if you live in OK, let me know and I can get you into contact with her:hug

Find something that you enjoy doing, if you can make some money doing it, all the better.

Get up, get moving and do something that appeals to you, If nothing sounds interesting then the old stand-by..... Volunteer to help others !! A sure fire cure for what ails you :aha That way you can pick the days you feel up to mingling, the hours so you won't be over taxed, the ability to leave when you think it is time to leave, And it helps you see your world in a better perspective. It fulfils you, gives you something to look forward to. I do work at the local food pantry here. I know the Meals on wheels are always looking for people to drive the meals to those who are house bound. Read to people in the hospital, or do the reading for the blind,
Take a class for fun like art,
Read your Bible and stay in the word, Pour out your heart and tell the Lord your needs and fears and let HIm do the leading and do the work in your life He wants to do !!! Most importantly HOPE and never give up on making your life what it can be :hug

I have been trying to read my bible more but i find i am surfing the web a lot more frequently, reading messageboards and news sites. I suppose eventually something will come up to occupy my time, it usually does.

It's nice to not have responsibilities for a while, but then you have to find something fulfilling to do. Anything honest is a fine thing to do. Find a hobby, volunteer to help others (yard work, visiting, animal shelter, anything really), find a career that you can do at home. And, yes, see if you can find some help from a governmental or school agency. There are people out there whose job it is to help you.

Good luck and God bless!
