I was sent the following forwarded email from a fellow church member (actually a deacon in my SBC Church). I disagree with this message/prayer and would like to respond as such, but in a kindly and Biblical way. The very first line, "Name it and claim it, believe it and receive it" gives me great cause for concern. :ohno The asking for a "double portion of God's Spirit" also bothers me. Finally, asking for blessings (prosperity gospel) in every area of our lives, sounds OK on the surface, except that it doesn't seem to allow for God's sovereignty to allow bad circumstances for our own benefit or for His. Finally, I hate chain email. :doh Am I the only one here? :scratch (I doubt if I address this, though!)

Suggestions, links and scriptures? :idunno

"NAME IT and CLAIM IT, BELIEVE IT and RECEIVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a POWERFUL PRAYER! When you are DOWN to nothing ...
God is UP to something'
Father, in the Name of Jesus, bless me even while I'm reading this prayer and bless the one that sent this to me in a special way. Open doors in our lives today, Save and set free!
Give us a double portion of your Spirit as we take back everything that the devil has stolen:
****Emotional Health
****Physical Health
****Finances
****Relationships
****Children
****Jobs
****Homes
****Marriages
I cancel every plot, plan and scheme the enemy has devised Against us in the NAME OF JESUS. And I declare:
NO WEAPON FORME AGAINST US WILL PROSPER. I speak LIFE into every dead situation. And, I thank you that nothing is over until YOU say it's over! Speak prophetically into our lives and to our situations:
****our households are blessed;
**** our health is blessed;
**** our marriages are blessed;
**** our finances are blessed;
**** our relationships are blessed;
**** our businesses are blessed;
**** our jobs are blessed;
**** our children are blessed;
**** our grandchildren are blessed;
**** our parents are blessed;
**** our siblings are blessed;
**** our ministries are blessed;
**** our decisions are blessed;
**** our friends are blessed.
**** Mortgages are paid and debts canceled; our hearts' desires are on the way; According to YOUR perfect will and plan for our lives.
YOU SAID YOU'D NEVER FORSAKE US! IN JESUS' NAME! AMEN !
Say this prayer, and then send it to EVERYBODY YOU KNOW.
Within hours countless people will have prayed for you, and you will have caused a multitude of people to pray to God for each other 'Safety is not the absence of danger, but is the presence of God'
A kid asked Jesus... how much do u love me? Jesus replied, 'I love! you this much.' and he stretched his arms to the cross and died for us. If you believe in God, you will send this to everyone on your list. I like you because of who you are to me. I treat you as a true friend. But if I don't get this back, I get the hint, you don't have time.
Send this to all people in your list within 30 min and something good will happen to you NOW.
This is not a fake...apparently...copy and paste this to 15 people in the next 10 min. and you will have one of the best days of your life tomorrow!!!
Blessings and love to you!"

This type of teaching is not being taught from the pulpit at our church and I don't believe that the other deacons believe any of this type of doctrine, but it does give me pause.

I've never gotten one like this, however, I get "angel" emails, forward this "prayer" to 10 people for luck, emails with catholic propoganda from a work friend...the last time i went to refute them, i got such a headache, trying to word my phrases right, trying to show them the truth in love.

Then, I started typing: "I don't believe in/follow this belief".

Now I just delete them.

I would sent him a kind note back and let him know that what he sent is dangerous and sounds like "prosperity gospel". It is unscriptural. Give him Heb. 4:16 and maybe send him an article:

Thanks :wave
I emailed the following (less a few personal statements):

I thank you for the many emails you send me. So many of them are great and very informative. I don’t always respond to each one, but I do appreciate them. I do want to respond to this one in love as I feel it is dangerous as it sounds like "prosperity gospel", which is unscriptural. A Christian’s power in prayer is being able to go directly to the “throne of grace” with our needs.

Hebrews 4:16 says, “Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

It is with confidence that we enter the throne room and the “name it claim” it crowd seems to enter the throne room with a disrespectful attitude, almost as if entitled to order God around. This doesn't seem to allow for God's sovereignty to allow bad circumstances for our own benefit or for His. God may give us mercy or just grace to get through.

I have certainly found this in my own circumstances – having fibromyalgia, as I know your daughter has as well. God has not chosen to heal my body. I have had periods of working intently for the Lord, despite my illness. God blessed me during that time. And then, in the last two years, I’ve felt less productive and have had to re-learn that my identity in Christ is not tied to how much I can do for Him – it is in my faith in Him, my love for Him and resting in what He has done for me. In short, His grace is sufficient for me. So in my suffering, God has again blessed me – although this lesson took me a little longer to learn.

I’ve given you two links that explain further the position of why these beliefs are contrary to God’s Word.

I get a lot of those send to ten people emails, now I delete them if I don't agree. Or, you have 10 angels, etc. etc. We're supposed to seek first the kingdom of God, and all of those things will be added unto you. Always stick to scripture when you explain something to someone. I learned that one! I try to!

Someone sent this to me and I thought it was so funny.

To all my friends who in 2007 sent me best 'wishes', chain letters, 'angel' letters or other promises of good luck if I forwarded something,

NONE OF THAT SEEMED TO WORK!

For 2008, could you please just send money, chocolate, movie tickets, gasoline vouchers or airline tickets instead?

Thank you!

AND AS WE ALL KNOW WE JUST NEED TO ASK THE FATHER AND HE WILL PROVIDE IN THIS TIMING.
