I was just looking for some of ya'lls thoughts... Do you think there will be a true run on grocery stores any time soon? What in the world would trigger it? I feel like it'll happen but I can't figure out what would trigger it with so many people in denial. :thinkingAny input or thoughts would be appreciated! Have a blessed day!

...when people start running out of money and are hungry...then it will happen...

Wouldnt it also be when they actually run out of credit (as in credit cards) too? Just a thought. Also, I'm looking for the run by people who are purchasing the food, not just stealing it. Thats a whole other scenario. But what would trigger everyone heading to the store to purchase anything they can and clear the shelves? :thinking

Here in the south all it takes is the word "SNOW" in a forecast. :aha

But on a serious side.....I'd guess a terrorist attack or a very wide area natural disaster or most likely Obama.

Any event that makes people think that they will either have a near term inaccessability to money or that the food supply might be interrupted will cause the run on the grocer.

I can think of any number of scenarios.

1. Stock market collapse--people are already on edge over inflation and strapped for cash.

2. Some domestic upheaval--think 9/11 but more drastic

3. (IMO most likely) Rapid price inflation--people know that they may not have enough money tomorrow to buy the products they need. They then take all resources they have and stockpile the necessities. Food. Water. Gasoline. Medicaitons.

4. Massive crop failures--think of what is happening to corn now...the price of rice on the global market. There is no food in the FDA stockpile now...well, enough wheat for 1/2 loaf of bread for each American. Not much.

I know what you're saying, about a TRUE shortage of supplies, but down here in Arkansas it doesn't take much for a run on supplies.
If just a light dusting of snow is predicted in the winter.......look out....you won't find any bread or milk in the stores. It's really kind of funny.
People around here wouldn't know how to survive up north.

Along the Gulf of Mexico coastline, a hurricane threat will cause a run on the stores.

Maybe the cost of diesel can cause the trucking to stop for a period, or the truckers go on strike?
