Hey ya'll, just joined.
About me:
I'm a 22 y/o male college student living in Oklahoma City, currently majoring in English.
I grew up in church in a predominanty rightwing evangelical premillenialist environment, and while encouraged to form my own beliefs by my parents, never really did until after I'd started college.
I've come to believe that too much of Christian belief and practice has been reduced to cliches and simplicity, when in fact no faith so personal should ever be such...especially when such catchphrases are made so rigid and essential by so many people that they have become the core of their faith....when in fact only God is absolute enough to be the core.
If I was to associate myself with one of the "schools" of thought regarding the End Times, I'd probably be closest to amillenialism, just because as a student of literature, I believe not enough of the Bible is allowed to be symbolism.
I do not associate myself with one single denomination, because I believe Christianity to be an individual faith.
I attend a Nazarene church, not because I agree with all precepts of that denomination, but because I feel welcomed by the people, and feel God led me to that one specific church.
I work as a part-time librarian, so I've had access to many theological writings, which God has used to help me in my branching away from the fundamentalism I was raised with. The writings of C.S. Lewis, *edit*have been great encouragement and help.
I just recently began attending church after several months away, and it's been great having a community again.
I come here having just left another Christian message board, in which every statement I made, whether presented as fact or opinion, was attacked.
Well hey, that pretty much sums me up for now. Hope to get to know some of ya'll in the coming time.
God bless!
