They have a ton of different types out there, Chicken Brick, Terra cotta Oven, Clay Oven Schlemmertopf, Romertopf... etc.
Anyway i got one from Goodwill yesterday for only $4.99. I can't find the exact one i got online, its stamped on the bottom: "Made in Portugal for HiMark" its more a Cloche style than the casserole type. Only problem is that even though it looked totally unused, it obviously came from the home of a heavy smoker. It smells like it was used as an ashtray!
So i have been soaking it in hot water with baking soda, then in water and vinegar and baking it in the oven. its not completely stink-free, but its much better now! the first thing i try cooking in it will be something relatively cheap, in case the smell remains.
This is the part of the post where i mention that i had a hard time deciding if i should put this in the Women's forum or in the Recipe place :stars lol
BUT if you also have a clay cooker thingie, tell me about it, what kind where you got it, how much it cost, how well it works, how often you use it etc.
I'm a cookware/small kitchen appliance junkie and i like to read stuff about this sort of thing. I understand you can make your own out of lead free terracotta pots and saucers...
anyway...
Got any recipes for yours?
If i'm not the only one, we can do a recipe thread in the Recipe room too. :D

Do you fill the inside with syrup, like a filled donut?

... the clay pot thing....
its like a giant clay garlic cooker, you soak the top and bottom like the garlic thing and fill it with meat or veg or roasts and stuff and cook. i guess it really makes things come out real yummy and things will brown up even with the lid on.
for $5 i figured i'd try it. its supposed to be really good for lower calorie cooking since you don't have to add any cooking fats since all the moisture stays in the cooker... i'm not worried about that, but since i do lo carb, things can get repetitive so seasoning can be a big deal, if this thing really concentrates the spice and seasonings like it is said to, it will rock!:drool
it will be nice to roast veggies in the same pan as chicken again, i prefer my rotisserie to oven baked chicken, but you can't roast veg along with the meat with mine.

Sounds good!! I've been eating mostly low-carb lately... since we signed on for that Angel Food deal, we have been getting tons of meat and I just throw it on the grill. It's still hard, cause I love potatoes and rice....
I just talked to a tupperware lady that wants to run an ad in my magazine and she said that now they have a thing where you can put a whole chicken in the microwave and it comes out like a rotisserie chicken! (The only way I like chicken!) I'm gonna have to get me one of those- easier than my Mom's rotisserie cooker!
