Well, if your data files are not to big you can use one of those USB flash drives. I have a 2gb flash drive which I move data around with.

Someone else might know about a computer to computer connect by cable which may allow bigger transfers.

I am so illiterate :ohnoTabletop computer!! I thought you said you bought a laptop.

I had a sudden flashback of the original Compaq "portable" with 9" CRT.

Actually, if you have a home network, setup sharing and just transfer your files.

I prefer using USB memory sticks, they are easy and convenient and not expensive either. Walmart has them in the computer section.
You could always network them but you might have to google on how to do that or maybe someone else could help with that..

USB is the easiest way short of setting up a local network.

You could always burn stuff to CD/DVD and 'sneakernet' the files.

Sing, that is what I do. I had a friend set it up and it is great for swapping files. Also I have an external hard drive that I have all of my files on for a back up. You might want to do this also, so you can keep your files on another drive. Just a thought. I have invested so much in graphics that I bought online(downloads) and I certainly don't want to lose them. :hug

Copy onto CD or storage stick, then transfer to new computer. Or network the computers via an inexpensive switch so you can transfer files between the two at will.
