In an effort to offset rising input and transportation costs, Kellogg's has announced plans to reduce the sizes of cereal boxes while simultaneously increasing prices. ( the second price increase in the last 6 months) A Kellogg's spokesperson said that an average cereal box sizes are being reduced by 2.4 ounces, which amounts to a "low to mid-single digit" price increase. This news comes after last months Bureau of Labor Statistics report that showed grocery costs has jumped 5.1 percent in 12 months, the lastest in a string of increases, and experts are saying that the nation is undergoing its worst grocery inflation since the early 1990's. ..

Okay, now, enough is enough.
If we are paying OPEC countries 139.00 bucks a barrel for oil, then we need to raise the price of grain to them. As I understand it we sell them grain at 7.00 dollars a bushel.

Do you see ANY logic in that???

I was talking to my co-workers last night and we think we should call our senators and representatives and see why this is not being done. Instead of raising price of grain to OPEC countries who are emptying our wallets for gas, the cereal companies raise the price on US...where when we go to the store we pay an increase for cereal.
That was sent to me in an email...wasn't my original idea...but I'd still like to know why we don't raise the price of grain.
I'm sure they would tell me that it can't be done, some kind of law or some agreement we have that would prevent us from doing that.

Ok, what else is there to eat in the morning? Egg prices have skyrocketed, pancake mix will go up undoubtedly, and cereal prices are terrible. They say they are going to make the box sizes smaller and prices will increase? Well I was shopping two nights ago, and the boxes already are smaller and prices have gone up..... UGH!

That is a great idea! Any economists out there? Why haven't er raised the prices on what we export...specifically to OPEC countries?

Please just keep my box of cereal the same size and raise the price to what it needs to be! Same thing with everything else. I'm used to cooking with certain sizes and many recipes that call for a certain size can, box, or package of something are going to be annoying to have to modify.

Okay, rant over.

You read my mind..*edit* but I was wondering if this was going to affect Rice Crispies..since this is a staple in my home for Rice Crispie Bars, the peanut butter ones..my recipie works with one box toone batch..now they are gonna make me "think"?

That could be both dangerous ...and a tragedy!

Seriously though, I read that the Quaker's Mills main processing plant was affected by the floods in Iowa and are going to be down until the damage can be repaired..and their inventories will be scarce until things get back to normal..am guessing we will be seeing this show up some where soon.:idunno

Well, see you'll probably to have to buy 2 boxes now, to have the correct amount for the recipe. Even MORE money for the Rice Krispie company.

ack! that is going to be a pain in the backside for those "1 can of this, 2 cans of that" type recipes....
