"Labyrinths are in the midst of a resurgence across North America"

LTRP Note: The following news story from a Canadian news source reports on the growing popularity of labyrinths. The structures, used to practice meditation and contemplative prayer, are being built all across North America. Please review our research on labyrinths as well (click here: http://www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com/labyrinth.htm ).

...If all this talk of energy flow and sacred geometry sounds like claptrap from the New Age fringes, guess again: Labyrinths are in the midst of a popular resurgence. In recent years, variations have popped up by the dozens in churches, spiritual retreats and public spaces across the country....

Anne Nesbitt, co-ordinator of the Carol Shields Memorial Labyrinth project, believes the labyrinth's renaissance is a reaction to troubled times - a way for people to make sense of issues such as global conflict and climate change.

...But the resurgence can also be traced to Lauren Artress, a psychotherapist and Episcopalian minister from California.

In the early 1990s, Dr. Artress made a pilgrimage to the Chartres labyrinth in France, which had fallen into disuse. Dr. Artress copied down its dimensions and set about installing replicas at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, where she was canon at the time.

In 1995, she wrote a book about the experience, called Walking a Sacred Path, which presents the labyrinth as a meditative refuge that offers moments of stillness and clarity amid the chaos of modern life....Click here to read this entire article:http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20080613.wllabyrinth13/BNStory/lifeMain/home

We need to get the NSA to use their satellite tech and find out where the gate to Hell is located in San Fran. Is it just my impression, or does it seem like everything hertical has at least a root in that place...:ohno

i learned about this in my "sacred art" class...(some) churches (somewhere) even have labyrinths in their gardens...

funny story: for the class we were required to construct a labyrinth...well I started :pray
Lord, help me! I DO NOT want to be a part of this or anything that offends you!

well, the day of, my teacher brought a huge plastic tarp, we laid it out and placed candles around it's edges...(i was thinking: here i go...:( ) THEN, IT STARTED POURING DOWN RAINING!!

we ran in the classroom and left all of her supplies outdoors, they got drenched!!

and she just kept saying: oh, i wish we had a chance to do the labyrinth...:( :D

i was :yeah THANK YOU JESUS!:aha

I did a prayer labyrinth once before I knew any better. It was pretty weird. I felt very unsettled about it. Now I know why!:doh

one of the hospitals my husband was in ( in SF, Cal Pacific Medical Center) has a labyrinth built into the courtyard of the hospital entrance (made of different colors of cement)...so families can seek "peace" and a bunch of other gobbledygook written on a plaque there....:doh And that's been a few years ago and it was old....I hate going to San Francisco........

I would love to go to a Labrynth (where others are meditating) and start skipping and singing in a high pitched voice.....

"follow the yellow brick road....follow the yellow brick road...follow, follow, follow, follow...follow the yellow brick road......."
