View Full Version : Over 800,000 Christians Hurdle Divisions to be 'One' Church

I belonged to the Anglican church for a few years. From what I gathered there the church theology of the Anglican church is heavily "church = visible entity" and tied with secular political power, and it seems to me all the "stained glass" types churches are like that. The average layperson (this is an Anglican term meaning those not involved in church ministry) is taught "proper hnemumatics" means the Bible must be read through the prism of church history. "Whenever the Bible is seemingly silent on one thing, look to the early church fathers practices" is their motto. This is why I'm afraid even many berean-like believers in mainline Protestantism will fail to understand invisible universal church.
Hmmm. My view has been anything but the stained glass variety. I'm sure you can attest to their belief better than I ever could. I've mostly hung around fiercely independent, bible thumping, scripture quoting fundamentalists. This is who I had in reference...

I don't think you read through the ONE Prayer web site. It is NOT ecumenical.
It actually looks to be Christ centered.
This IS an ecumenical prayer gathering.
There are apostate churches mixed among "possible" o.k. ones
note this:
Ed Young and his minitries are involved and he condones Contemplative Prayer.

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 2 Cor. 6:14
We see the unprecedented unity of the Church through One Prayer as an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the world. During the weekend of June 21/22, churches participating in One Prayer will have the opportunity to collect a special offering for an ambitious mission initiative.http://www.oneprayer.com/missions

Interesting how its 800,000 and most never heard of it before.
I think the article shows a lack of understanding about what the church is, and only focuses on the visible.
The true church actually is in unity around Christ, and one with Christ. The visible church is a mass of confusion, and never will be in true unity. It is full of wolves and false doctrine, like we were told it would be.
This was my concern exactly. How else could it be explained?

Maybe that is part of the problem, people cannot explain it (the visible church appearing in disunity), so they try to "fix" it.
"Fix" it by coming together in 'unity', when in fact that is not possible in many cases. Some will go so far as "bringing about" unity between christians and muslims, which is pretty astoundingly stupid.
They even miss the whole point that when we are individually in unity with the Spirit, we are naturally in unity with each other.
That should be the goal, instead its a unity of some other kind....

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with the "true" church of Jesus Christ. It never has, nor at this moment needs fixing. What we are experiencing is a sifting of the wheat from the tares. Any attempt to gather together in unity is pure ecumenism.

That's the way I feel. It's as if we are all being sifted through the fine print of the Bible. Hold on tight to it; knowledge of the Word really is life itself!

That's it exactly!!!! The true church IS united. We are united around Jesus as our Lord and Savior, and the Bible as the inspired Word of God. The rest who believe anything less are not part of the true Church, even though that may bring strong disagreement.

We stand on the Rock, all others are on sinking ground............. they are as stubble in the wind -- the burnt chaff.
We are united in Christ, not united together among men.
We are walking with likeminded believers, not with religious/spiritual people.
Light with light, cannot fellowship with darkness as the darkness does not comprehend the light, neither does it understand.....
