Our son won first place in his school's reading program this year. DH promised him we would take a family vacation (first one in 14 years!) and we're trying to find something the kids will like that is family friendly.

There's been talk of Myrtle Beach, Charleston & possibly Orlando. Does anybody have any suggestions on places to have some good clean fun for two kids that are ages 6 & 9? DS is such a gentle soul, he told me Myrtle Beach sounded good because "I think they have a bowling alley and a video arcade." Our kids just aren't of this world.

BTW, the kids want to spend one day at the beach as they've never gone before. DH and I don't care for it and we are so fair, we'll have to have the strongest SPF factor available. We have agreed to do that one day. (Yuck!)

Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

Well ya'll should have a great time!!! I used to go to Myrtle Beach and had a lot of fun there. I would also look at Destin FL it has crystal clear blue water and white sandy beaches. Also they have a nice water park called the Big Kahona(sp). Charleston would be nice as well since they have an aircraft carrier you could go on and a civil war park to go to.

We took our kids ot Myrtle Beach for Spring Break and stayed at the SEA MIST which has family packages that include Water park, Amusement park, putt-putt, one free breakfast buffet, etc. . . . you should check into that. Our kids loved all the activities and we loved that everything was in our hotel package.

Myrtle Beach is too touristy for us...we go to Ocean Isle Beach and stay which is a very family friendly place. It's between Myrtle Beach and Wilmington and there's lots to do in either direction so if you want to do amusement park stuff or do other things there's lots of possibilities.

Thank you all so much for the helpful information. DH and I will discuss it and see what kind of plan we can come up with to keep everybody interested and happy.
