Gore's Home Still Guzzling Energy

Tuesday, June 17, 2008 10:48 PM

In the year since Al Gore took steps to make his home more energy-efficient, the former vice president’s home energy use surged more than 10 percent, according to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research.

“A man’s commitment to his beliefs is best measured by what he does behind the closed doors of his own home,” said Drew Johnson, President of the Tennessee Center for Policy Research.

“Al Gore is a hypocrite and a fraud when it comes to his commitment to the environment, judging by his home energy consumption.” In the past year, Gore’s home burned through 213,210 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, enough to power 232 average American households for a month. In February 2007, "An Inconvenient Truth," a film based on a climate change speech developed by Gore, won an Academy Award for best documentary feature. The next day, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research uncovered that Gore’s Nashville home guzzled 20 times more electricity than the average American household.

After the Tennessee Center for Policy Research exposed Gore’s massive home energy use, the former Vice President scurried to make his home more energy-efficient. Despite adding solar panels, installing a geothermal system, replacing existing light bulbs with more efficient models, and overhauling the home’s windows and ductwork, Gore now consumes more electricity than before the “green” overhaul. Since taking steps to make his home more environmentally-friendly last June, Gore devours an average of 17,768 kWh per month –1,638 kWh more energy per month than before the renovations – at a cost of $16,533. By comparison, the average American household consumes 11,040 kWh in an entire year, according to the Energy Information Administration.

In the wake of becoming the most well-known global warming alarmist, Gore won an Oscar, a Grammy and the Nobel Peace Prize. In addition, Gore saw his personal wealth increase by an estimated $100 million thanks largely to speaking fees and investments related to global warming hysteria.

“Actions speak louder than words, and Gore’s actions prove that he views climate change not as a serious problem, but as a money-making opportunity,” Johnson said.

“Gore is exploiting the public’s concern about the environment to line his pockets and enhance his profile.” The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, a Nashville-based free market think tank and watchdog organization, obtained information about Gore’s home energy use through a public records request to the Nashville Electric Service.

Al Gore, Sr was one of the founding members of Occidental Petroleum, so I would say Al, Jr probably still receives dividends from that company. He's such a hypocrite:doh It was mentioned on Fox today about how much electricity his home uses a month. Oh, wait, he's buying carbon credits, probably from the company he started that sells carbon credits:shocked

I forgot about his father good point.:thumb Al is just one of a very large group of wealthy left leaning individuals who consume 10, 20, 100% more resources then the average American with no intension of reducing there carbon foot print simply because they can afford it. Supporting those who are talking a good environmental game just helps to make them feel better about it.:ohno:tsk

Who's Looking Out for You: Republicans or Democrats?

Barack Obama and the Democratic Party in general do NOT want to drill for more oil or expand nuclear energy or build more refineries. Protecting the environment is the stated reason, but it goes much further than that.

If you read the liberal bible, The New York Times, those folks actually want higher gas prices because they believe that's the only thing that will make Americans use less fossil fuel. And using less fossil fuel is the goal of the global warming warriors. For the liberal crew, it is purely a global warming play.

Thus, the left is putting a theory — that manmade pollution is causing the earth to warm — over a fact — that America's economy and national security is in grave danger because the USA has to buy fuel from dubious people overseas.

...

You can't find a more liberal country than Sweden, yet almost half that country's electricity is nuke generated. They store the waste underground. In France, 77 percent of their electricity comes from nukes. They also store the waste underground. In Norway, they drill offshore for oil. The result? The country's wealthy and there's been little environmental downside.

So why doesn't the USA drill offshore and have more nuclear energy? The answer is extremism. The green nuts have blocked all common sense traditional energy development, and the big oil greed-heads have stopped alternative energy cold, like alcohol-based fuel.

Think about it. Brazil runs its vehicles on sugar-based ethanol, but we can't? Norway is self-sufficient and clean with oil drilling, but we can't drill? France and Sweden, much smaller countries, can bury nuclear waste, but we can't?

WAKE UP AMERICANS!

Of course there are those, the liberal elites that PROFIT from their "alternatives".

Global Warming Hypocrites

But the award-winning former vice-president was busted over the energy-guzzling mansion he lives in with his wife, Tipper in the Nashville area. Perhaps you remember seeing the internet sensation, "A Tale of Two Houses." One house, a modest ranch-style home, featured tons of energy-efficient features and cutting edge technology; the other, just a nice, big, ordinary mansion that soaked up electricity like a sponge does with water. The punchline? The modest, energy-smart ranch is owned by President Bush in Crawford, Texas. The energy-obnoxious mansion is owned by one Albert Gore of Nashville, Tennessee.

So what's the grand poo-bah of the "planet-in-peril" crowd to do? Clearly embarrassed by "A Tale of Two Houses", Gore spent a bunch of money installing solar panels, a geothermal system, new windows, and other supposedly efficient measures.

A year after he made the eco-friendly changes, Drew Johnson and his group decided to check out the Gore household electric bill. Their findings: in the year AFTER all these fancy changes were made, the Gores actually consumed 10% more energy than before. They pay thousands and thousands of dollars a year on their electric bill, enough to power hundreds of average American houses.

The rank hypocrisy of the global warming fanatics is simply galling.

I suggested that the Tennessee Center for Policy Research should commit to a new project: tracking just how many trips Gore has taken on big, fat, energy-guzzling private jets in order to give speeches for which he pulls down 100 thousand dollars -- or more -- a pop.

You see, there is simply no defending the preferred mode of travel for many of the celebrity crazies who lecture us about carbon credits. Do you think these folks are willing to give up their mansions and private jets in order to "save the planet?"

BTW, Check out where AL GORE has oodles of stock!

You'll be amazed at the direct correlation to what the "global warming" crowd recommends ... G.E. and their floursecent light bulbs . Yes, they are more than happy to raid your wallet and then PROFIT from it as they push legislation FOR IT. You just get the bill as the stock $$$ CLIMBS.

If we could just harness the 'wind' created by Gore and his ole' crony Bill, we could probably at least provide all the power needs for Arkansas and Tennessee, eh?

This is slightly off-topic, but my husband and grandson went to West Texas last week, and he said there are thousands of wind generators out there. T. Boone Pickens is supposed to put in a huge wind farm in that area. We need more of these and nuclear energy as well. And, of course, START DRILLING!
