I want to be ill!!! This is a major vent on the direction or lack of direction I should say some Christians have. While dropping my daughter off at VBS tonight, I met a woman that goes to the early service at the church. She tells us that her family gets up and watches “JOEL OSTIEN” and then comes to the early service so they can get back in bed by 9:15. She then goes on to tell us that her kids ask to go to Sunday school and they normally try to talk them out of it, but if they have to stay that her and her husband usually go grocery shopping and then come back to get them. She likes how they get church out of the way and can enjoy the rest of their Sunday! I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! I am going to talk to the pastor tonight when I pick the kids up and see what he thinks about his flock watching apostate preachers and just wanting to get Church over with!! And we wonder why our churches are in such trouble!!

When I read the title I thought you meant you wanted to be ill, now I know what you mean. :doh
That would upset me too. Too bad for the kids.

What's wrong with Joel Ostein?? Isn't he the guy that has Lakewood Church? I have watched his church meetings on telly and thought he was ok. I am new to the idea of "apostate" - can you tell me what it means?

Here are some good threads to give you a better understanding of Joel and his brand of feel-good, virtually Jesus-free gospel:

Argh. Unfortunately most people, even "churched" now see Sunday as just another day. Just goes to prove that churches can have an awesome building that is completely equipped and offer the most sought after programs and it all can get people nowhere. Only solid food and authentic Christian fellowship satisfies the soul. Somewhere between trying to change and become more contemporary the gospel was watered down and tweaked to make it more appealing. The result...scenarios just like you have mentioned. God bless you for seeing through all of this, staying strong and going to your pastor to warn him about where people in his flock are at spiritually. Proud of you sis!

I was really upset yesterday so thanks for letting me vent. I listened to WOTMradio last night online and they were talking about the same thing and how people aren't in church for the right reasons. The played a reading of Jonathan Edwards "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" and I just cried. We have so many lost people and so many of them are sitting in the church pews.

What's even sadder is that so many of them are sitting in the pews of churches where they will never hear the gospel, even if they are present every Sunday and paying full attention to every word.

GREAT!! Now my blood pressure is up again!! Thanks a lot!! :doh :hug
You are 100% correct and it makes my blood boil!! Like this Sunday is the "program" for VBS. The entire point of VBS is to reach the lost community. So if we have 59 kids in the VBS program and 80% of them are not from the church then we should have a jam-packed program full of why we need Jesus Christ and the salvation He offers. Will we get that? Most likely not, but again I am going to talk to the pastor and see what he has planned. I was sitting here last night thinking how if they aren't going to preach salvation than after the service I am going to stand on my soap back and start evangelizing like they do in WOTM. I've done it before and it really gets peoples attention and makes them think.
I kid you not; my heart is beating so fast I could have a heart attack!! Our time is soooo short we should be screaming it from the roof tops that we should repent and be saved!!
