We have a family at our church that have two kids and one on the way in about 3 weeks. Anyway I was over to babysit when she was at the doctors. I was getting the kids a snack and there was like no food in the house. My heart just about broke. If I never went to sit the kids that day I would have never known there was a need. When she got home and I asked her about the food. She just said that they have not misssed a meal yet but it is like the depression for them but the Lord has been faithful. I think we will see more and more of this right in our home churches and will need to look out for these families in need to help them out.

:ohno sorry to hear of this.

I think we will see more and more of this right in our home churches and will need to look out for these families in need to help them out. Please do. God is pleased when we do for one another. Most folks that have need are quiet about it. They are mentally in a different place. Most believers I know would help someone in a heartbeat if they knew of a need, if they can ... it takes careful observation to notice who needs help. Watch, listen ... pray. In some churches it is sounded loud and clear that if you are not "prospering", that there must be sin in your life or some such lie. Something like that could be true in some cases, but it usually is not but it's stated as though for everyone.

If someone has need due to circumstances beyond their control, help if circumstances allow.

If someone has need due to circumstances they can control, help with prayer and godly counsel.

James 2:
15 *If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16 *And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
17 *Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

1 John 3:
17 *But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
18 *My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
19 *And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

And if you are one in need of help, consider this while waiting:

Habakkuk 3:
17 *Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:
18 *Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
19 *The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.

Blessings in the name of Jesus,
Issachar

I have noticed not only the high prices, but also many, many goods that are simply not on the shelves regularly anymore. I suspect that due to the high deisel prices getting food deliveries is more difficult.

I'll tell you what, it's kind of scary to go into the store and see absolutely no chicken, or absolutely no lettuce, etc. As in, the shelves being completely empty in those sections.

I don't recall this happening in my lifetime before now.

Writersmom, these are scary times that we live in. Many, if not most, Christians seem to be under attack both spiritually and physically in every area of our lives. Hold on to God, he is a mighty rock in the turmoil and He cannot be uprooted. Keep your eyes on Him and trust that He will take care of you.

Dear Father, please give Writersmom a peaceful spirit and help her to keep strong in her faith and trust in You. I ask this for all of Your children on this lonely planet. Thank you dear Father. In the name of Your precious son, Jesus, I ask this, Amen.

Amanda's mom, whatever would we do without your kind words to help quite our spiritual storms and reminding us that Jesus is our rock and our sheild during these times? :hug :hug :hug :hug :hug

I hope we are able to lift you up in someway when you are having a bad stressed out day. :)
What a blessing you are!

I bought a box of Bisquick at Sams last week and the box appeared to be smaller but the price was the same. When I got home and set it down next to the almost empty one we had in our pantry...sure enough it was 4 lbs instead of the 5 lbs the other one held. I was miffed but thanked the good Lord that I could afford to have it.

Good thing our stores are all well-stocked. I do alot of comparison shopping and of course Walmart honors any sales flyers from any competitor.

Also, last week at our Sunday morning service, our pastor announced that one of the our sisters was in financial need. Her light would get turned off if she didn't get it paid. Our pastor asked if anybody could donate $50 to please do so. God only knows how many did as I know many are in dire straits themselves.

I always help when I can because I never know when I will be in their shoes. You just never know.

I'm a floor supervisor/bookkeeper at the local supermarket. I see first hand what goes on between the manufacture. down sizing the product and the cost of food going up. Each market has a supplier (that's where we get the stuff to stock our shelves), when suppliers up the prices (gas costs to get it to each store) we at store level must also adjust prices.
At checkout, a big trend is people paying with credit cards. It has increased like you wouldn't believe, hardly anyone pays cash, I guess for lack of it.
We would like to start a Senior Citizen day, offering them 10% off, but we're being met w/resistance from the owners.
Heres one big tip to save some money, shop the perimeter of the store (produce, dairy, meat) and not the aisles. It's in the aisles where the most money is spent.

It's the little things that I notice at our store: No more fresh fish products. Now I can only buy the red enchilada sauce and not the green chili sauce. There is a lot less variety of products -- used to be you had your choice between four and five name brands and the store brand. Now, many times it is just the store brand. And of course the price has gone up on everything. . .

On another note, our water supplier (we have a cistern) was just here not half an hour ago to fill our cistern. He told me next time it was going up to $70.00 a fill up because he spent 3200.00 on diesel in the last month. It was 65.00. I know $5.00 doesn't seem much, but it is nearly an 8% increase. When we first moved here eight years ago, it was only $40.00, so it has nearly doubled in the last eight years. On the other hand, the poor guy has to fill a lot of cisterns at even $70.00 just to pay the fuel bill (45 a month) before he even starts to make any money. Then there is his truck maintenance (oil, tires) and insurance (which I'm sure is expensive). He's a sole-proprietor, so he's putting in some long days.

My husband drives otr for a major company. One of the perks of the job is that he can drive the truck home when he is not over the road. Now they are telling him he has to start parking the truck at the terminal and drive his own vehicle. This means we have to buy a second car. This means we have the added expense after buying the car of paying to put gas in it. In other words, we just took about a 400.00 to 500.00 a month cut in his wages. But you can't blame them, they're feeling the pinch also.

Hubby and I just spoke about not being sure if we can make it another year. The only thing that has kept us half way afloat the first half of this year has been a sizable income tax refund and then the stimulus check, and that was before having to buy a second vehicle and pay for more gas. . .

P.S. -- if you all want to help, prayers are welcomed. So is buying my book: http://www.amazon.com/Brief-Eternal-Silence-Rebecca-Melvin/dp/0977445216/ref=sr_1_1/104-7879247-0011920?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1191185161&sr=1-1 or at Double Edge Press (cheaper) http://hummingbirdworldmedia.com/DoubleEdgePress-RebeccaMelvin.html . . . lol

Don't forget the elderly in our churches. Last month, we started a food pantry for our senior citizens members.

went shopping last night with dh and I'm still feeling ill. We went to two different stores and I had to leave when he checked out because I was so stressed.

Anything bagged chips, processed food in the freezer, cereal, spices, NOTHING was full, and everything was more. I know this has been on here for a while but my dh usually does the shopping as it is just something that is difficult for me.

There was hardly anyone else shopping, which was a bit creepy.

I just feel ill. I thank God that He gave us a little extra this month to stock up, but with the floods in the midwest it is only going to get worse.

I'm ok in my heart, I have peace that God will take care of us, but boy is my flesh going crazy. I feel nauseous and paniced almost all the time.

NOt even sure if this is the right forum for this maybe it should go under prayer requests??????

John 14.2727Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid:hugs
