Writersmom, these are scary times that we live in. Many, if not most, Christians seem to be under attack both spiritually and physically in every area of our lives. Hold on to God, he is a mighty rock in the turmoil and He cannot be uprooted. Keep your eyes on Him and trust that He will take care of you.
Dear Father, please give Writersmom a peaceful spirit and help her to keep strong in her faith and trust in You. I ask this for all of Your children on this lonely planet. Thank you dear Father. In the name of Your precious son, Jesus, I ask this, Amen.
Amandas Mom thanks for posting this. Spritual attacks its been happening with me too , and Im glad and thankful that Im alone in this. Satan knows that his time is short, but I thank the Lord Jesus Christ for His peace and Holy Spriit Living inisde my heart. without Him In my life, heart and soul, wow I would completely drown without Him. There are times when I get scared, and when I call on Jesus name, He feels me with His sweet peace. Our race in this world is coming to a close real fast. Im tired of struggeling in this life, me it struggeling to get a steady job, and so far I've been turned down three times. It has not been easy for me at all, but yet again the peace in My Heart is wonderful. God says He will take care of it, He knows what He is doing, even when I dont, or dont understand this at all. I cannot wait for this to be all over, when im safe In my Saviors arms! even so come quickly Lord Jesus, Amen!

We have never been rich, and never been able to make huge purchases (though we do go on vacations), but we have always been able to buy mostly what we want from the grocery store. For the first time, I am being super careful with my purchases and denying myself some of the more expensive snacks and processed foods. We also stock up when meats and cereals are on sale. I anticipate we will be cutting back even more very soon.

Here at work today FOX saturday AM program was on and was listening to the various guest and one of them said something that sent a chill down my spine that really speaks of the direction we have turned. They were talking of course about the energy situation and one of them said that our food supply was in danger. WOW I thought this is the US our food supply could be in danger. I talked to a customer today who can no longer afford to drive his Dodge with a cummings because he is paying $4.50ish for his diesel he says he spends $25.00 a day to get to work. He no longer drives it. I thought of the tens of thousands of tractor trailers hauling produce and such to grocery stores.
That could affect the food supply with Diesel over $5.00.

I'm a floor supervisor/bookkeeper at the local supermarket. I see first hand what goes on between the manufacture. down sizing the product and the cost of food going up. Each market has a supplier (that's where we get the stuff to stock our shelves), when suppliers up the prices (gas costs to get it to each store) we at store level must also adjust prices.
At checkout, a big trend is people paying with credit cards. It has increased like you wouldn't believe, hardly anyone pays cash, I guess for lack of it.
We would like to start a Senior Citizen day, offering them 10% off, but we're being met w/resistance from the owners.
Heres one big tip to save some money, shop the perimeter of the store (produce, dairy, meat) and not the aisles. It's in the aisles where the most money is spent.

Are you sure they're using "credit" cards and not "debit" cards? I use my debit card all the time, but I use like a credit card so I have to sign for my purchase, even at the grocery store.

Exactly the way I use mine as well. I don't use credit cards. If I can't pay cash for it, I don't get it. :)

We use credit cards but we never buy unless we know we have the cash in the bank to cover it. That way, the money in the account continues to draw interest until we send in the check to pay the credit card bill. We've been this way for over 20 years.

This is pretty much our exact situation. Except for a few very lean months here and there, we've never thought much about a slightly higher grocery bill, going out to dinner here and there, etc. We're still not in a really bad situation. (Thankfully, just about the time the gas and food prices shot up was when our son's preschool year ended, so we were done with the tuition and the twice-daily trips across town!!) But we're getting there now too, and starting to look at ways to cut back. I'm feeling a heavy burden to reduce our debt and get our finances in order as the situation worsens.
I went to Sam's Club this week and was kind of shocked at the amount I spent but it was comforting to know that we now have several months' worth of our OTC allergy medicines, a good amount of basic supplies, and a little extra in foodstuffs. (Already have a little extra flour, canned goods, etc.)

Were getting hammered between gas and food costs.
Yet grateful were not having to live on mud patties like the Haitians.
Not trying to hijack the thread...but we're headed to Haiti in a few days on a mission trip....please keep us and the ones we're goign to serve in your prayers.
I worry how much the cost of food, and gs etc here...well begin to effect our ability to travel on mission trips...I mean the airfare alone is already sky high.

You know, being the lazy person that I am (or can be) ...I stopped writing
checks at the grocery store and use a credit card instead. I've been doing this for several years now. But our finances are good and we pay off the balance every month.
