I have noticed Supermarket prices, as well as when eating out, both have gone up.

Everything is going up except for my paycheck !!!:aha If I dwell on it to much then I start to worry so I have decided to get serious now about saving every penny that I can and I am ruthless, I am on a mission to get by on what I make and to do that I have to be very thrifty. My daughter starts school in a couple of months so I am stashing money away now for her new clothes, I started making my own laundry soap too, Carpet shampoo, I am not buying paper plates and paper towels any longer. I have quit buying processed foods ( except for chips since I can't make them ) I am making teas instead of sodas, I am cutting wood now for winter, Made about 100 fire starters already :aha, I think the faster I adjust to cutting back and doing things the old way the better since I need the practice and to be honest my daughter and I are enjoying the baking and canning! I am selling every bit of worthless stuff I have piled up here on e-bay, I need the room anyway!!! So for now I am enjoying seeing the savings and amazed at how much the little things add up !!!! Now I am going to sit back and wait on the Lord !!!

Everything is going up and people are just not eating out. We went to Ruby Tuesday tonight it was 7:00 and no waiting. In our area there was 19 tables and 16 were empty. When we left at 8:00 it was the same. Just weird for a Saturday night.

We've given up eating out for the most part. It was the most flexible thing in our budget. When we noticed the bill going up and up, we just cut it out. The food is inferior a lot of the time anyway. Our family of two adults and two teens spends 20.00+ just at McDonald's. We could have two dinners of steak for that at home!

Are you sure they're using "credit" cards and not "debit" cards? I use my debit card all the time, but I use like a credit card so I have to sign for my purchase, even at the grocery store.
Well they may very well be, I wouldn't know by looking at the card. The point was, cash was being used less and less and plastic more and more.

I went to Sams club yesterday and was amazed at the jump in most prices on food I did buy extra on things that had tomatoes in them like ketchup etc because I believe that those prices are going to soar if not..then I have some extra tomato based products :)

Maybe it's just me, I don't know, but I only shop at Super Wal-Mart, and while I've seen prices go up, I just haven't seen any "sky is falling" scenarios with their prices.
Where I'm at a gallon of milk never moved above $2.99 for Great Value.
And if you go weekly, and make yourself a system, you can STILL save on many foods by buying and freezing, buying in bigger quanitites when on sale, and using as many coupons as possible. I also buy many bulk coupons of what we like on EBAY and really clean up!
Wal-Mart has the best prices around, our diet soda's are still at $1 for 2 liters, The diet Coke and Pepsi's seem to bounce back and forth for that low price, etc.
And we also buy cans as well and one or the other seems to be on sale once a month, a 24 pack for $5. Sure, not on sale, it's $7, but just buy that extra case when you can to carry you thru to the next month and next sale item.
Also just bought us 2 Ribeyes Friday for $6.99 a lb on sale. It was just $10 for both of them and it was about .75 size each. Soak them puppies in Olive Oil and Garlic Pepper all day and mmm-mmm-mmmmmmmmmmmm! :)
I guess when it's just the 2 of us, and yes we eat a lot of meat, and make salads, it's not been that bad yet, by buying stuff on sale, and freezing it and strategizing on our purchases.

Exactly! I think many people are panicking during these times. We must trust in the Lord and have faith that He will provide when we need it. :)

For many of us though, it's families of four and more. Also, many on this board lived on a limited income. For some of us, food prices combined with gas prices have left us financially strained.
I would never even consider purchasing meat as expensive as that ribeye. That is expensive to me personally.
You may not be feeling the strain, but others are. I feel that people who aren't in that situation tend to minimize it and think it's not a big deal. It is a big deal to those living it.

I'm sorry to hear that. I meant nothing at you personally. I was just saying food prices haven't had a great impact at all on us. Remember coupons, use them, lots of them, obtain them online at free sites, buying extra Sunday newspapers, or going to EBAY. I have made a killing. And, if you have other grocery stores in town, including Dollar General, and HAVE A CIRCULAR in hand, with Wal-Mart, they DO PRICE MATCH. We get lower prices on bunches of stuff from our the grocery store. We play the game and save big $$$$. So you see, that's our trade out for steak and chicken and pork all the time. We live on the grill.
But if my husband and I didn't put the pedal to the metal with our small business, and be tough as nails go-getters and go after work with prospects, we'd probably have many problems as well, like others here.
I have to work hard and make the best of it. I take the pricing game and turn it around. I go on offense. :) Store checkers love me! Really, they do!
