Heat Wave To Continue Into Weekend
Temps In Parts Of San Fernando Valley Could Reach 113
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger directed various public safety agencies to prepare for any public health problems that could develop.
"I have directed my Office of Emergency Services to coordinate with state and local agencies and do everything we can to ensure personal safety for all Californians during high temperatures today through the weekend," Schwarzenegger said in a statement. "Every Californian who will be in a part of the state experiencing 90- to 100-plus-degree heat needs to prepare and take extra precautions in their activities."
The state Office of Emergency Services was advised by the National Weather Service that temperatures were expected to reach above 100 degrees during the day in many areas of the Southland and temperatures at night were expected to remain in the upper 60s to 70s.
"Today is the first official day of summer, and the hot temperatures are already upon us," said OES Director Henry Renteria.
By mid-day, temperatures were above 100 degrees at points from the Central Coast southwest across valleys
