Yikes. I just thought I'd put my two cents in on a message board I visit often - they had a thread with a link to the "What Level of Hell are You Going To" test. I told them that none of them needed to go to hell if they would only believe in the healing salvation of Jesus Christ and they totally ganged up on me.
It was abit scary! I'm not good at witnessing to people face to face but even on the message board I found it frightening!
Why do people need to get so nasty? It feels really personal and horrible to be attacked - even by people I don't know.
What are others experiences of online evangalism?

The internet makes it easy for people to post hateful remarks anonymously.
Keep the faith.
You never know who might be reading and paying attention to your post.

If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. - John 15:18
I have lost online friends due to witnessing. :-(
P.S. Your avatar is creeping me out! :fear :heh

I experienced something like that on another message board I visit.
I stated my personal opinion about something, a nationally known situation that happened about 3 years ago. I stated my opinion from my Christian understanding and viewpoint, and did I ever get attacked.
You would have thought I'd killed somebody from the way I was attacked for my opinion, just because mine happened to differ from the majority of everyone else's.
I have been put down on this board before for something as minor as a preference for gospel music. And another time over some other similar, minor matter.
I do not know what gets into people that they feel they can just attack folks on these boards.
This world is made up of many different people from all kinds of backgrounds, different viewpoints and no two people will prefer the same thing or believe just alike.
It's crazy to do people like that, even if it is on a message board. People here can feel
attacked and words do hurt.

I recently took a sabbatical from a message board I frequent because one particular person got very nasty and personal with me about something not even remotely connected to faith! I got quite a few emails from other board members, which basically said, "oh, don't let so-and-so bother you. She is just very opinionated and can be quite rude." IMO, that's never OK. I'm sure if it had been about faith it would have been even worse.
Bottom line, there are nasty people out there who will just jump you for whatever reasons they can find.

I recently saw a thread on a "christian forum' making fun of the rapture (they were catholics) and it made me cry.
They were ridiculing this fact out of sheer ignorance and someone chimed in saying "it's ok..just think of all the cool stuff we will have our hands on after they leave!" I kid you not.
I can give a link to the thread if anyone wants to see it.... :(

yeah - I'll have a look at it. Always interested in seeing things from others point of view and then referencing to the bible.

I made a quick check of the rules and I will respect them.

However, I can tell you that they did link to the Rapture Index and made a complete mockery of it. Here are a few quotes and the thread is several pages long. They were referring to the letters being left behind after the rapture (automated service) :
So what will the e-mails say? "Ha, ha you've been left behind and I'm in heaven!"Or "I told you so!" Nice. Great representation of Christian humility...

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I was really shaken by it yesterday, but I'm starting to feel more confidence. I was reading Daniel thismorning and how he was thrown into the lions den - I guess really by posting on a forum I am kind of throwing myself in with the "lions" but God protected Daniel and I know he is looking out for me too :)
