Nice bike! I recently purchased an older 1981 Yamaha 650 Special II. I plan on fixing it up, new pipes, etc. It's great to be getting 54mpg instead of 20mpg like my minivan was getting (I have a 30 mi one-way commute).

That's so funny! Just today I saw a bike with a homemade rear end on it- trike style with a full seat- for 3! It was rough, but looked like a work in progress...great idea!

Worth it in my book! I was worried a 650 would be too small for me, but I am pleasantly surprised by it. I stole the thing, I really did. I'd have spent so much more, and needlessly on an 1100. It will pay for itself, should the Lord tarry, in about 11 months- or less, depending on gas prices.

I started carpooling a day a week with a neighbor. We may increase that.

I sure wish I still had my '86 Honda CRX HF. I used to get 50 mpg in town. 60+ on the highway. Fun car to drive too. It was like driving a fancy go-kart.

I thought about getting a motorcycle before, but when I was in the Army as a medic, there was a reason we called them donorcycles. I was at a few high speed motorcycle wrecks, not pretty.
