I think sports are only one of the many things that can distract us from God when done in excess. Hobbies or interests of any kind can move our time, attention, and resources away from God. Are sports bad, no. I love to play catch with my boys in the back yard - this encourages physical activity, builds confidence, strengthens our relationship and is fun. It is a form of entertainment and is good when done in moderation.

The far extreme, in my eyes, is spending almost all free time and resources to watch or attend professional sports. Some people that I know who fall into this category are not happy with their own life and I think they try to get away from reality instead of doing something about it.

This time and money could be better used for God's kingdom rather than entertainment. Just think if all the money spent on professional sports went to feed orphans or help the poor and needy??

In Wisconsin, it's a misdemeanor to not watch Packer games. So I'm just playing it safe.

I first became a sports fan when I was living in the DFW area in the area. So naturally, I'm a Cowboys fan.

I never grew to like the Mavericks nor the Rangers, however-The Detroit Pistons and Boston Red Sox were teams that have appealed to me much more.

Then I moved to New Orleans and lived there for almost 20 years. The Saints ended up growing on me as well for the reason being that my dad, who never was a Cowboys fan, ended up liking this team alot...so we ended up watching most of their games together. And we happen to like the Indy Colts too b/c the Manning family is probably the most prominent figures in the city.

I'm back in DFW thanks to the storm, so I get to see my lifelong team up close again.

As for college teams-LSU and to some extent, UT.
