Saddleback & SoulForce: Rick Warren’s Half Lie?
Published June 26th, 2008 by Editor in Homosexuality, Purpose Driven, Rick Warren
Recently, Southern Baptist pastor, Rick Warren publicly declared a staunch statement of disinterest regarding the SoulForce visits to megachurches, including Saddleback.
Warren stated that SoulForce was not invited to Saddleback and he would not meet with themiduring their "puiblicity stunt".
Warren conveniently alibied his absence from Saddleback on Father’s Day weekend when SoulForce visited.
Certainly, if that was the whole story, Warren’s statement could be viewed with respect. However, it seems that Warren himself may have been engaged in his own publicity stunt in making his statement.
SoulForce just released a press release confirming that Saddleback leaders met with SoulForce for dialogue over a meal the Monday after the Sunday visit to Saddleback. The press release reveals that these plans to visit were made in December 2007.
Did Rick Warren lie by ommission when he failed to share those details in his negative public statement regarding the SoulForce visit?
Why would Warren create the impression he was against the SoulForce "publicity stunt" , when his Southern Baptist church indulged SoulForce by coordinating the two day visit back in December 2007?
