Anyone know anything about it? Is it a dinstinct cult, or the same new-age thing wrapped for public consumption?

Noticed Paris Hilton reading it along with the Bible.

Basically the same new-age thing. Like a lot of new-age things, there are aspects which can be taken and used by anyone, including Christians. The problem is when it ascribes to a "god" of sorts that isn't our True God. People who believe in and teach "The Secret" range from those who believe in an actual "source energy" (a god they don't know) which enables things to happen, to those who believe that "The Secret" works because it helps an individual overcome negative beliefs they have that keep them from moving forward.

For example, if a person can't seem to get ahead in her career, "The Secret" can help her to. Some proponents say that using the methods and taking on the beliefs in "The Secret" are a way of communicating to the "source energy" that you are ready for and deserve to progress. This would be the obvious new-age aspect of "The Secret". Then there are those proponents of it that say using the methods and techniques and beliefs in "The Secret" will help her to stop prohibiting herself from moving forward. The idea is that it's likely she's not progressing in her career because her mind is embedded with so many beliefs of why she CAN'T that she ultimately accepts this as fact and doesn't allow herself to move forward by taking action that leads to failure (or more typically, by NOT taking action because the belief is so strong that she doesn't even try what she believes to be "impossible"). Also, there are people who believe in "source energy" but acknowledge that they don't know that the "source energy" is real, and there is very possibly no "source energy" and that "The Secret" works because we are simply taking control of our beliefs, and they don't care what the reason is, they just "know" that it works and use it.

So, I think a discerning Christian can certainly benefit from learning "The Secret" and employing those techniques which don't contradict the Truth we know from God's Word; however, for those who are lost, I believe this can (but doesn't necessarily) lead to a false belief in something other than God, and thereby put off that person's seeking God, thinking she has found an "answer" that will be sufficient for her life.

The Secret can be helpful for those who use it properly, and can be a distraction from God for those who don't know Him, just like anything else that can be a false god and give a false sense of security or "answers" (i.e. TV, money, spouse, children, security, country, politics, etc.).

That is very sad. It breaks my heart that people are so easily led away by another. Just makes me want to stomp that devil in the head and crush him. Oh, but Jesus does win in the end. Praise the Lord for that. But in the meantime, it can sure be disheartening when it "looks" like the devil is winning. Of course the key word there is "looks" He doesnt win.

Since The Secret has become so popular, I have recently decided to start a page about it on my site. For those who are interested, you can find the page through the following link: http://members.tripod.com/jdlarsenmn/secret.htm

On that page, I have gathered together some helpful resources on The Secret, and I will add some more resources to the page soon, God willing. I hope someone will find the page to be of some help.

I think people like Oprah get caught up in their lifestyle, and money. They forget who gave it to them. According to them they have all the answers, and they pulled themselves out of bad situations. So anyone who can not be like them in their minds are just making bad choices.

So very true, they have lost the right perspective and have begun to focus on the wrong things.

Isn't the secret basically WOF without God? Of course WOF basically reduces God to a genie anyway, so maybe they are basically the same afterall.

Same old tired trick. Witchcraft, new age, dianetics, WOF, ect., ect. All the same thing. Tap into the power, you are a god, you have the power, positive thinking. Silly rabbit, God is in control!
